Facilities Technician / Digital Development Lead
From the heart of Gothenburg, Svenska Mässan Gothia Towers offers everything from major trade shows and events to unforgettable hotel and restaurant experiences. Our operations encompass many strong brands that together create a unique and attractive meeting place where we welcome nearly two million visitors each year. As an employee with us, you work alongside a large, engaged, and conscientious team and help develop our business, both now and in the future. You already work with facilities management today – but you know it can be done better. You see where time is wasted, where energy isn't optimized, and where systems aren't being used to their full potential. You have ideas but don't always get the right conditions to implement them. This new role as Facilities Technician / Digital Development Lead was created specifically to take the next step in how we approach facilities management. With us, you don't just manage operations – you get to shape how facilities work should actually function going forward. What the role is really about This is not a traditional operations role; you combine: Operational management in a technically complex facility Energy monitoring and analysis Development of work methods, systems, and digital tools An informal leadership role within the team You serve as a bridge between operations, coordination, and management – with a clear mandate to improve how we work. You report to the Facilities Department with the Facilities Manager as your direct supervisor. What you'll actually do In your daily work, this means you: Conduct troubleshooting and optimize operations in complex systems Identify discrepancies in energy data and translate them into action Develop and improve our digital tools, AI agents, and work methods Ensure quality in data collection, monitoring, and reporting Support and coach colleagues on how to use our digital systems in practice Provide technical support in investments and development decisions In short: you impact both today's operations and future development. Why this role exists We're at a turning point where we need someone who can drive this development in practice, not just in theory: More data-driven operations Increased focus on energy efficiency Greater demands for digital structure AI is becoming a real tool – not just an idea Who you are You're not new to facilities management. You have the education, experience, and intuition needed to understand a facility as a whole. With post-secondary education in building technology (or equivalent background) and a valid driver's license, you can, among other things, see the big picture of a facility, understand the consequences of technical decisions, and prioritize correctly in your daily work. But what sets you apart: You question work methods – and improve them You see potential in data, systems, and digitalization You're comfortable taking initiative without clear guidelines You bring others along, even in times of change You don't need to know everything about digitalization, AI, or systems – but you should be willing to use them in practice. What you get with us A role with real impact – not just responsibility on paper A complex facility where technology, operations, and business meet The mandate to develop work methods and structure Breadth in your assignment: operations, energy, digitalization Colleagues who understand operations – and need someone to drive the next step This is not a "pure development role" – you'll work operationally in the facility where you need to handle both acute problems and long-term improvements. Job details This is a permanent full-time position. The role involves on-call duties and shift work in recurring cycles. Start date by agreement. The application deadline is August 16, but the position may be filled earlier, so don't delay submitting your application. Start date by agreement. Job Description "Chalmers – a globally leading technical university for a better world." This is the vision that will carry the institution into the 2040s — a journey where education and research reach the highest international level, while Chalmers contributes to sustainable societal transformation and creates real value for both people and nature. Imagine stepping into a university where researchers have just been informed about one of the largest research investments in modern times: the Chalmers Foundation is investing 100 million kronor per year for ten years to give researchers the freedom to think bigger, bolder, and more long-term. It is an environment where digitalization is not just a support tool — it is a strategic enabler for Chalmers' entire journey toward world-class excellence. An environment where it is not enough for IT to function. IT must free up researchers' time, accelerate innovation, modernize working methods, and bring together a complex university organization where academic excellence, value creation, and social responsibility converge. Do you want to build this world-class IT function? As IT Director, you will have a key role in a knowledge-intensive environment with a clear societal mission. The role includes leading an organization of approximately 100 employees, including a management group consisting of six unit heads. You will be responsible for balancing the need for academic openness with high cybersecurity standards. This is an opportunity for you who want to combine strategic thinking with operational leadership in an environment where technology and innovation are central. As IT Director, you report to the University Director and are part of the central support services' management group. Terms of Employment Since Chalmers handles sensitive information and operates in an environment with increasing security requirements, the role of IT Director carries significant responsibility. To be eligible for the position, you must therefore be prepared to undergo a background check and, if necessary, a security clearance before an employment decision is made. Location: Gothenburg (campus), with a requirement for physical presence. Application In this recruitment, Chalmers University of Technology is collaborating with Randstad. If you have questions about the role or the recruitment process, please feel free to contact the responsible recruitment consultant; Erik Perborn, [email protected] Application Deadline: 2026-08-23 We look forward to receiving your application! You can apply easily by clicking the application button and uploading your CV. Please note that for GDPR reasons, we are unable to accept applications via email. Responsibilities Your assignment encompasses overall responsibility for Chalmers' IT operations, from strategy to delivery: Lead and develop the IT department and take responsibility for personnel, budget, and priorities. Act as a strategic partner on matters concerning technology, security, and external developments. Ensure modern, stable, and secure IT operations that build confidence in the organization. Provide IT services that support advanced requirements in research and education. Drive work on digitalization and cybersecurity in close collaboration with the university's leadership forum. Qualifications We are looking for you as a confident and experienced leader with the ability to navigate complex organizations. You possess: An academic degree in IT, engineering, systems science, or equivalent professional experience that we assess as equivalent. Solid and several years of experience in leadership at a strategic/senior level, including overall responsibility for personnel, results, and operations. Documented experience leading managers and larger organizations. Experience successfully driving change initiatives and implementing complex projects. Good understanding of research-related activities or knowledge-intensive environments. Very strong ability to express yourself fluently in both Swedish and English. About the Company Randstad At Randstad, we know that everyone has a place in the job market. With operations throughout the country and in all areas of expertise, we help people find a job that feels right, where they have the opportunity to grow, develop, and reach their full potential.
