Your Team The Bloch beamline is dedicated to high-resolution ARPES and spin-ARPES for studying the electronic structure of surfaces and 2D materials. The beamline provides VUV and soft X-ray radiation with variable polarization to two end stations – ARPES and spin-ARPES – with beam sizes down to 10 μm × 10 μm. The team consists of six members, including researchers, engineers, postdoctoral fellows, and technicians, who actively drive several research and development projects. MAX IV is seeking a beamline scientist at the state-of-the-art ARPES beamline BLOCH to further develop the ARPES and spin-ARPES programs, including advancing instrumentation, expanding user groups, and conducting independent scientific research. Your primary responsibilities will be to: Ensure stable and optimal daily operation of the beamline, including all instruments, software, and associated facilities, and prepare it for planned user experiments. Support users during the setup and execution of beamline experiments. Ensure that the technical infrastructure is always available and work toward improvements that contribute to a user-friendly beamline. Contribute to the continuous development and implementation of methods and beamline instrumentation. Run an independent or collaborative research program and secure external funding. Play an active role in developing the beamline's research activities. Conduct procurements to develop and maintain the technical infrastructure. Together with the beamline manager, evaluate incoming proposals for feasibility. Inform existing and potential new users about the beamline's current capabilities and upgrade plans. Create and maintain beamline documentation. Have thorough knowledge of general and organizational safety rules and requirements, and instruct users and team members. Supervise visiting researchers (postdoctoral fellows, doctoral students, and master's students). To succeed in this role, you must have the following qualifications: PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent. Documented professional research experience (postdoctoral level) in synchrotron-based ARPES. Documented professional research experience (postdoctoral level) performing and interpreting micro-ARPES experiments and data. Extensive experience using and maintaining ultrahigh vacuum equipment. Experience programming in, for example, Python. Proven ability to work independently. Excellent English language skills, strong communication skills, and collaboration abilities. Experience with user support at synchrotron facilities or laboratories. The following are considered assets: Documented experience with spin-ARPES.
