Researcher
Department of Animal Biosciences We are seeking a researcher who wants to work on developing new and innovative detection methods for identifying chemical and infectious substances, as well as various types of biomarkers for pathogen detection. The long-term goal is to develop detection methods that can be used in research but above all provide practical benefits through routine use outside academia—for improved food safety, enhanced animal and public health, and optimized pharmaceutical treatment. This position provides excellent conditions to establish your own research line, and it is expected that the recruited researcher will actively seek external funding to ensure long-term financing of the research direction. About the Job At the Department of Food Safety, Infection Biology, Pharmacology and Toxicology (LIFT), we work across a broad range of subjects: food safety, bacteriology, parasitology, virology, One Health, pharmacology, and toxicology. What unites all these fields is an interest and need to develop new innovative detection methods for biological molecules as well as chemical and infectious substances. In many cases, it would be desirable for these detection methods to be designed so they can be used in field conditions. LIFT is now recruiting a researcher in the field of developing innovative detection methods to intensify our work on these issues and to increase collaboration between the different subjects at our department. The researcher position is fully funded for four years, and the recruited researcher is expected during this time to work actively on seeking external research grants to ensure long-term financing of this research direction. The work will be conducted in close collaboration with existing researchers at LIFT, and therefore the person we seek must have excellent collaborative skills. Duties include planning and conducting research initiatives, presenting research results and writing scientific articles, supervising students and doctoral candidates, conference participation, actively working to obtain external research funding, and some administrative work. We are looking for someone who wants to work on developing new innovative detection methods with the long-term goal of improved food safety, enhanced animal and public health, and optimized pharmaceutical treatment. The focus is on identifying biomarkers for detection of pathogens, as well as chemical and infectious substances and other biological molecules. Your Background We seek someone with a scientific background and a doctoral degree in one of the scientific areas we work with at LIFT (food safety, bacteriology, parasitology, virology, One Health, pharmacology, and toxicology). It is a requirement that you have your own experience with independent, practical laboratory work in advanced method development within one of these scientific areas. The experience should include development, optimization, and validation of molecular, enzymatic, or cell-based analytical methods. Since it is a stated ambition that the developed methods should also be able to provide practical benefits outside academia, we would like to see that you have documented experience working with innovation and commercialization, as well as research-related work in regulatory environments where the quality, documentation, usability, and acceptance of new analytical methods outside academia have been in focus. We are looking for someone with strong personal motivation for research work and a long-term ambition to build your own academic research line. Furthermore, you need to have good ability to collaborate with many people, as we have the ambition for this to be an interdisciplinary effort that includes all subjects at LIFT. It is a merit if you have scientific experience (e.g., your own research work, grant applications, teaching) from several (at least two) of the subjects we work with at LIFT. Furthermore, it is a merit if you have documented experience working with innovation and commercialization. For this position, it is required that you speak and write Swedish fluently and have good knowledge of English. The position will be offered to the person who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is considered to have the best conditions to carry out and develop the current work tasks and contribute to positive development of the operation. About Us The Department of Animal Biosciences (HBIO) is part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science and is responsible for education, research, and postgraduate studies in several basic and applied scientific areas. These areas include anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, toxicology, breeding and genetics, immunology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epizootiology, comparative medicine, food safety, and One Health. Our research encompasses everything from production animals to sports and companion animals, laboratory animals, and wildlife. The department's researchers work across the full spectrum from molecular mechanisms and microbiology to the structure, function, and behavior of whole animals, and how these are affected by breeding, physical activity, management, production, stress, environmental factors, and disease. Operations include development, management and maintenance of approximately 760,000 square meters of facilities – from modern healthcare buildings to historic properties. In addition to facilities management, the department is also responsible for transportation, logistics solutions and meal services within the region. Customers are primarily within healthcare, where Akademiska Hospital is the largest. Here you are offered a dynamic work environment with complex assignments, broad contact surfaces and an important public mission. Our Operations The Facilities Department is responsible for developing and managing Region Uppsala's properties and providing facilities in both owned and leased buildings. Work takes place in close cooperation with the region's operations where facilities are adapted for everything from advanced healthcare and public transportation to cultural and administrative purposes. The department currently consists of nine facilities managers. The workplace is located in modern facilities on the Akademiska Hospital campus in Uppsala. We are now looking for a Technical Facilities Manager who wants to contribute to creating efficient and fit-for-purpose facilities in a technically advanced environment. The role offers developmental work with a stable and long-term employer. Your Assignment As a Technical Facilities Manager, you are responsible for the technical management of the property portfolio with focus on function, operation, lifespan and long-term value development. The role is broad and generalist in nature, where you have overall responsibility for the technical systems of the properties such as ventilation, electricity, heating, cooling and control and monitoring systems. Unlike technical specialists who specialize in specific technical areas, as a Technical Facilities Manager you have a holistic perspective and ensure that all technical systems work together and function effectively based on operational needs. You work closely with facilities managers, operations organization, project department, technical specialists and external suppliers. The role involves identifying development needs, initiating and prioritizing technical measures, and participating in projects as a requirement setter and coordinating function. You are also responsible for analyzing maintenance needs, preparing documentation for investment and maintenance plans, and contributing to energy efficiency and sustainable solutions. The role also includes monitoring technical performance, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and supporting operations on technical matters. Your Qualifications We are looking for someone with technical education in areas such as real estate, installation, energy or construction, or equivalent work experience. You have a good understanding of property technical systems and how they interact in complex buildings. You thrive in a generalist role where you work broadly with multiple technical areas in parallel and have the ability to prioritize, coordinate and see the whole picture rather than specializing in a single technical discipline. Experience in technical management, operations or projects is advantageous. Knowledge in energy optimization, control and monitoring systems and applicable regulatory requirements is an advantage. You have good system skills and work in a structured manner with follow-up, analysis and documentation. Your Competence As a person you are analytical and solution-oriented, with good collaboration skills and the ability to communicate technical issues in a clear and educational manner. You are self-driven, take responsibility and drive matters forward while maintaining a holistic perspective on the property's technical function and long-term development. We Offer The position is full-time, permanent. Appointment as soon as possible by agreement. You are based on the Akademiska Hospital campus; there is an opportunity to work partially remotely. Responsible for ongoing monitoring and prioritization of all project activities. This work should be done in close consultation with other project organizations to ensure that resource allocation and delivery plans are optimized based on the organization's needs. Regular and transparent status reporting to relevant stakeholders. When obstacles are identified, clear recommendations for action and decision are required to provide decision-makers with correct information. Responsible for conducting a systematic evaluation of the project after its completion. The work includes documentation of "lessons learned" and recommendations for improving procedures and processes. Ensure effective knowledge transfer to relevant parts of the organization and be responsible for conducting a formal project closure. About You We are looking for someone who is solution-oriented, responsible, and enjoys driving work forward. You have the ability to create structure, prioritize between different tasks, and communicate clearly with people in different parts of the organization. You are comfortable making decisions, following up on activities, and managing changes during the project. To succeed in the role, you need to have a technical interest, good collaboration skills, and a thorough work approach.
