Professor in Childhood Studies

At the Childhood Studies unit, unique interdisciplinary research is conducted that combines a focus on children's agency and social interactions with a critical and theoretical awareness of children and childhood's shifting meanings across time and space. The department conducts research training and undergraduate education with a focus on questions about children and childhood. Within undergraduate education, an international master's program is offered, along with standalone courses and teacher education courses. Staff members at the Childhood Studies unit share an interest in critical approaches to cultural, social, political, and historical processes. We are now seeking a professor who, in their role as a research leader, can build an interdisciplinary research area, through which the Childhood Studies unit can continue to broaden and develop its activities. We invite you as an applicant to describe and justify in your application what this research area should be. We are looking for someone with a strong drive, willingness, and capacity to collaborate within the department, across the university, and in external national and international networks. It is also a requirement that the holder of this position is skilled at seeking and obtaining external research grants so that the area can grow. The work also involves following national and international developments within your subject area, as well as orienting yourself within the child and youth studies field and broader societal developments that are relevant to the research. The work tasks include, together with other professors, playing a leading role in creating cohesion and a scientific foundation to guide the Childhood Studies unit into the future. This includes contributing to the department's core activities: research, teaching, mentorship, knowledge exchange, publishing, and academic leadership. You are active within the research community, participate in departmental activities such as seminars and workshops, lead research projects, communicate results through academic publications, and foster academic collegiality. The work tasks for this position are primarily research, research leadership, teaching at the research level, and research supervision. The position also includes some teaching, including supervision at both undergraduate and advanced levels, in both Swedish and English. The distribution between tasks may vary depending on research projects and teaching needs.
