The Department of History and Contemporary Studies at Södertörn University is announcing a permanent appointment as a Lecturer in Archival Science. Archival Science at Södertörn University has offered standalone courses in archival science at the undergraduate level since fall 2013. Since fall 2016, two bachelor's programs with an archival science focus have also been offered at the university. Archival Science combines traditions from the humanities and cultural heritage with social sciences, law, and information technology, and aims, among other things, to educate for professional roles such as archivist or records manager. Duties The primary responsibility is teaching in the main field of Archival Science. Teaching also includes supervision, course responsibility, and course administration. Applicants are expected to contribute to course development, take administrative responsibility, and actively participate in the work of the teaching faculty. The appointed lecturer is also expected to plan, initiate, and develop independent research in archival science or related subject areas, and actively apply for external research funding. Administrative tasks may also be included. Teaching is conducted in Swedish. Collaboration is part of course administration and course responsibility in this position. Qualifications To be eligible for appointment as a Lecturer in Archival Science, one must have demonstrated pedagogical skill and have completed a doctoral degree in archival science or in a subject relevant to archival science, or have equivalent scientific competence. Good archival knowledge is a requirement for the appointment. The following criteria for scientific and pedagogical skill are applied in assessing eligibility at Södertörn University. Scientific skill is demonstrated through scientific publications in the relevant subject area, participation in research projects, research collaborations, collaboration assignments, contributions to the development of the subject area, and through assignments as an expert, editor, or equivalent. Pedagogical skill is demonstrated through high-quality and substantial teaching, participation in pedagogical development work, a self-reflective approach to students' learning and experiences and one's own teaching role, collaboration initiatives, research-based higher education, and course development. The applicant must have completed higher education pedagogy training of at least 7.5 credits or have equivalent competence. The applicant must otherwise possess the personal qualities needed to perform the appointment well and to represent the university in a manner that benefits the operations, such as responsibility, flexibility, independence, and good collaboration skills. For this position, proficiency in teaching in Swedish is required. Assessment Criteria The degree of skill that is required for eligibility for appointment as a lecturer shall serve as the assessment criteria for the appointment. For this position, scientific and pedagogical skill shall be weighted equally. For this appointment, the following assessment criteria have also been established (in order of priority). Pedagogical skill in archival science or archival and information science, humanities and/or social science subjects that require good knowledge of archives and scientific skill in subject areas relevant to archival science, including the ability to initiate and conduct research and to seek and obtain external funding. Administrative skill and collaboration skill that are of significance for the appointment. Administrative skill refers to the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively, meet deadlines, and manage resources in accordance with the organization's objectives and priorities. Collaboration skill refers to the ability to initiate, plan, and implement collaboration with the surrounding society. Professional experience as an archivist.
