Animal Care Specialist with Expertise in Reptiles, Amphibians, and Arachnids

About the Role As an animal care specialist at Furuviksparken, you'll have a varied, responsible, and meaningful role where animal welfare and guest experience are at the center. You work daily with animal care and serve as an important ambassador for both the animals and Furuviksparken. In this position, you combine hands-on animal husbandry with theoretical knowledge about animals and nature, which you share with our visitors and school groups through presentations and guided tours. Through your dedication, you contribute to increased understanding of biodiversity—and to memories that last long for everyone who visits us. Your Responsibilities As an animal care specialist, your duties include: Working daily in accordance with routines and guidelines caring for everything from reptiles and amphibians to large primates Optimizing animal welfare by investigating, planning, implementing, and evaluating behavior-based environmental enrichment Planning, implementing, and developing positive reinforcement-based animal training that promotes welfare and enables voluntary participation in care and veterinary procedures Assisting with animal transports and veterinary procedures Conducting and documenting behavioral observations Participating in systematic animal welfare assessments and contributing to continuous improvement work Ensuring correct and ongoing record-keeping and documentation in ZIMS Participating in systematic occupational health and safety work and developing work methods and procedures Mentoring apprentices Interacting with guests and school groups, inspiring and educating them through presentations, tours, and guided experiences You'll also be an active part of Furuviksparken's sustainability efforts and help ensure the operation meets all regulatory and industry requirements. We're Looking for You If You: Have education in animal care, zoology, biology, or equivalent, or comparable work experience Have documented knowledge and professional experience working with reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids Have documented knowledge and professional experience maintaining and monitoring the technical equipment required for these animal groups' environments, such as lighting, UV systems, heating, and filtration Thrive with both independent work and teamwork Are responsible and take initiative Communicate easily and enjoy meeting guests, both on stage and at the microphone Hold a valid driver's license (category B) It's a Plus If You: Already have experience working in ZIMS and Zoomonitor Have strong abilities to search for, read, and understand scientifically-based information Have additional training in animal care, animal transport, or similar Have experience and knowledge of learning and animal training Are familiar with and have prior experience working according to the SPIDER model Practical Information: This is a permanent position with a six-month probationary period. About the role We are now looking for a sous chef with your own ideas, genuine commitment, and the desire to develop both the operation and the people around you. Here you'll combine creativity, leadership, and culinary passion in a restaurant with great variety throughout the year where no season is like the other.
