The Department of Language Studies is now seeking a University Lecturer in Language Didactics with a focus on reading and writing instruction in early school years in Swedish (preschool class and grades 1-6 of primary school). The position is a temporary contract for the period 2027-01-01 to 2028-08-31. Description and Duties The position consists of 80% teaching and 20% professional development. Teaching is primarily focused on students' reading and writing in the early school years and will mainly be conducted within the department's basic and advanced courses in teacher education for early school years and within in-service teacher training. Teaching takes place both on campus, in web-based courses, and within in-service training at schools. Professional development time is typically used for research. Besides teaching and research, the position includes development work, teaching-related administration, as well as personnel, subject, and planning meetings. Qualifications To be eligible for appointment as a University Lecturer, applicants must have demonstrated pedagogical competence and hold a doctoral degree in Language Didactics with a focus on reading and writing instruction in Swedish, or in Swedish with a focus on Language Didactics or pedagogical work. Applicants are also eligible if they hold a doctoral degree in another field relevant to the position, or possess equivalent scientific competence, or have other professional expertise that is significant considering the subject content and work tasks of the position. Excellent proficiency in Swedish and good proficiency in English, as well as the ability to teach in these languages, are requirements for the position. Selection Criteria The selection criteria are: scientific and pedagogical competence in the field of Language Didactics with a focus on reading and writing instruction in early school years in Swedish. Additional selection criteria include administrative competence and experience in development work within the field. Other selection criteria include good collaborative skills in education and research, as well as the competence and suitability otherwise needed to perform the duties well. Scientific competence shall be demonstrated through independent scientific production. Criteria for assessment are: breadth and depth in research – quality and scope originality in research productivity contribution to the international scientific community assignments within the scientific community ability to competitively obtain external research funding engagement with the surrounding society Pedagogical competence for appointment as University Lecturer shall be demonstrated through documented teaching experience on a scientific basis at the university. Criteria for assessing pedagogical competence in appointments on a scientific basis are: ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate teaching, and ability to supervise and examine students at all educational levels ability to vary teaching methods and examination forms in relation to expected learning outcomes and the nature of the subject experience of collaboration with the surrounding society in planning and conducting education participation in developing learning environments, teaching materials, and educational resources a reflective approach to student learning and one's own teaching role. Competence may be acquired through university pedagogy education, other education relevant to university teaching, or documented, proven experience of teaching at the university. Balancing Selection Criteria Equal care shall be taken in assessing pedagogical and scientific competence. When balancing these two criteria, scientific competence shall be given the greatest weight. Particular weight shall be given to scientific and pedagogical competence. When assessing scientific competence, particular weight shall be given to research competence in the field of Language Didactics with a focus on reading and writing instruction in early school years in Swedish. Engagement with the surrounding society shall be given weight in the assessment. When assessing pedagogical competence, particular weight shall be given to teaching in teacher education and teaching in reading and writing didactics. Great weight shall be given to supervision and examination of degree projects. Great weight shall be given to experience in development work within the field. Administrative competence, good collaborative skills in education and research, and the competence and suitability otherwise needed to perform the duties well shall be given weight in the assessment.
