Substitute Technician in the Metal Workshop The Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts consists of the departments HDK-Valand – School of Design and Crafts and School of Performing Arts. As a unified faculty for art and learning, we are an independent, visionary, and critical force in the necessary work of creating a more sustainable and open society. In HDK-Valand's workshops, there are both the tools and space for students to realize their ideas. At HDK-Valand in Steneby, there are workshops for several textile techniques, wood, metal, and model making. The current position is placed in the metal workshop in Steneby, Northern Europe's largest metal workshop for higher education. The metal workshop is very well equipped and can be used by students after they have completed a mandatory introductory course and passed all components. The machinery consists of the most common machines used in metal processing. Our technician in the metal workshop has requested study leave, and we now need to hire a substitute to cover this absence. Responsibilities You will be the responsible technician for the metal workshop with its associated machinery and equipment. The duties are divided into technical work, administrative work, and pedagogical work. Technical work involves maintaining, servicing, and repairing machines and equipment and ensuring that the workshop's work environment maintains a high standard by updating and communicating safety and orderliness rules to workshop users. Administrative work includes purchasing equipment and materials, managing material sales to students, maintaining external contacts with repair services and other service units, and assisting with potential new investments. Pedagogical work involves instructing students in the use and maintenance of equipment and machines for metal processing such as milling, blasting, welding, etc., in accordance with applicable safety regulations. This also includes sharing knowledge about metal as a material and possible metal processing techniques in an artistic context. The technician plans and conducts introductory courses for students. Qualifications We are seeking someone with great skill and capacity to perform the duties described above. You are experienced and practiced in handling flammable materials, chemicals, and raw materials. You are a creative and organized person with a good ability to organize a functional environment suited for all kinds of activities in an educational setting. You have experience with both analog and digital processing machines. You are naturally service-oriented, take initiative, and have the ability to independently drive projects efficiently. You have the ability to explain techniques and functions in a simple way to people with different backgrounds and needs, even in stressful situations. As you will be part of a work team that works closely together, it is important that you have the ability to collaborate and are open to new ideas, without compromising safety or your responsibility as a representative of a university and thus a public authority. Since safety and work environment are central to all HDK-Valand workshops, you are expected to have competence and have clearly demonstrated interest in these tasks. Great weight will be placed on your ability to cooperate and your capacity to become part of the technician work team. We would like to see that you have an artistic background. Since you will meet many students of different nationalities, you are expected to be able to express yourself well in speech and writing in both English and Swedish.
