The Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI) is an expert authority working to promote safe, efficient, and sustainable construction and sustainable use of land and natural resources. Our responsibilities include preventing landslides, rockfalls, and coastal erosion. SGI also develops new methods for remediation of contaminated sites. SGI reports to the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise and has approximately 100 employees. Our headquarters is located in Linköping, with offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö. 1 position(s). JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Your main responsibilities will consist of working with applied research and knowledge dissemination within the geotechnical field, as well as providing support to municipalities and other authorities on geotechnical matters. Our research and development activities are focused on improving knowledge about soil suitability for construction, how reduced resource and climate impact in ground construction can be achieved, and methods and technologies that support this. We work with applied research in the following areas: geotechnical properties of soil and more efficient foundation and reinforcement methods for geotechnically problematic soils, as well as changed load conditions due to climate change. Your role will involve conducting research that creates added value in fulfilling our societal mission and ensuring that research results are put to practical use. You are expected to take own initiatives and actively contribute to and assume responsibility for developing new development and research applications that also help secure external funding for parts of our research activities. In addition, you will contribute to societal benefit by publishing target-group-adapted guidelines and practical recommendations. The work involves, in addition to leading your own assignments, also participating in other assignments within SGI's operations. You will have many external contacts with primarily authorities and research actors, but also with municipalities and private clients. The position also includes participation in our knowledge dissemination activities (such as courses, seminars, and lectures) as well as review activities (such as examination of detailed plans). The person hired will be part of SGI's emergency organization, providing geotechnical support particularly to rescue services when landslides or rockfalls have occurred or are feared (on-call geotechnician, TiB). QUALIFICATIONS We are seeking a research-trained geotechnical engineer with • a degree from a civil engineering program in civil engineering or civil/water engineering • strong ability to work independently and take initiative for new assignments within research and development activities • good collaboration skills and comfort working in projects with others • ability to establish and develop internal and external contacts • excellent communication skills in both Swedish and English, both written and spoken It is meritorious for this position if you have • competence in numerical modeling • experience leading and conducting stability investigations • experience reviewing geotechnical documents It is important that you enjoy external contact, appreciate collaboration, and are inspired by our societal mission and the breadth of work tasks.
