The Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI) is an expert authority working toward safe, efficient, and sustainable construction and sustainable use of land and natural resources. Our responsibilities include preventing landslides, rockfalls, and coastal erosion. SGI also develops new methods for remediating contaminated areas. SGI is part of the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise and has approximately 100 employees. The head office is located in Linköping with offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö. 1 position(s). WORK TASKS Your work will primarily consist of applied research and knowledge dissemination within the geotechnical field, as well as providing support to municipalities and other authorities on geotechnical issues. Research and development activities are focused on improving knowledge about soil suitability for construction, achieving reduced resource and climate impact in soil construction, and developing methods and technologies to support this. We conduct applied research in the following areas: geotechnical soil properties and more efficient foundation and reinforcement methods for geotechnically problematic soils, as well as changed load conditions resulting from climate change. The role includes conducting research that creates added value in fulfilling our societal mission and working to ensure that research results are put to practical use. You are expected to take your own initiatives and actively contribute to and be responsible for developing new development and research applications that also help secure external funding for parts of the research activities. Beyond this, you will also contribute to societal benefit by publishing targeted guidance documents and practical recommendations. The work involves, in addition to leading your own assignments, participating in others' assignments within SGI's operations. You will have many external contacts, primarily with authorities and research actors but also with municipalities and private clients. The position also includes participation in our knowledge dissemination activities (for example, courses, seminars, and lectures) and review activities (for example, review of detailed plans). The person hired will be part of SGI's emergency organization providing geotechnical support, particularly to the rescue service when a rockfall or landslide occurs or is suspected (TiB on-call specialist). QUALIFICATIONS We are seeking a research-educated geotechnical engineer who has • a degree in civil engineering from a civil engineering or civil and water engineering program • strong ability to work independently and take initiatives for new assignments in research and development activities • good collaboration skills and enjoys working in projects with others • ability to establish and develop internal and external contacts • expresses yourself well orally and in writing in Swedish and English It is advantageous for the position if you have • competence in numerical modeling • experience leading and conducting stability investigations • experience reviewing geotechnical documents It is important that you enjoy external contacts, appreciate collaboration, and can be inspired by our societal mission and the breadth of work tasks.
