The Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI) is an expert authority working toward safe, efficient, and sustainable construction and sustainable use of land and natural resources. Our mission includes preventing landslides, rockfalls, and coastal erosion. SGI also develops new methods for remediation of contaminated areas. SGI is part of the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise and has approximately 100 employees. The head office is located in Linköping, with additional offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö. 1 position(s). WORK TASKS Your primary responsibilities will involve applied research and knowledge dissemination within geotechnics, as well as providing support to municipalities and other authorities on geotechnical issues. Research and development activities are focused on improving knowledge about soil suitability for construction, achieving reduced resource and climate impact in ground engineering, and developing methods and technologies that support these goals. We conduct applied research in the following areas: geotechnical soil properties, more efficient foundation and reinforcement methods for geotechnically problematic soils, and methods addressing changed load conditions resulting from climate change. The role includes conducting research that creates added value in implementing our public mission and ensuring that research results provide practical benefits. You are expected to take own initiatives and actively contribute to developing new development and research applications that also help generate external funding for parts of our research activities. Additionally, you will contribute to public benefit through publishing targeted guidance materials and practical recommendations. The work involves, in addition to leading your own projects, participating in other projects within SGI's operations. You will have many external contacts, primarily with authorities and research organizations, as well as with municipalities and private clients. The position also includes participation in our knowledge dissemination activities (such as courses, seminars, and lectures) and review activities (such as examination of detailed plans). The hired person will be part of SGI's emergency response organization, providing geotechnical support primarily to rescue services when landslides or rockfalls have occurred or are feared (TiB on-call person). QUALIFICATIONS We are seeking a research-trained geotechnical engineer with: • a civil engineering degree from a civil engineering, roads and water engineering, or equivalent program • strong ability to work independently and take initiative for new assignments within research and development • good collaboration skills and comfort working in projects with others • ability to establish and develop internal and external contacts • excellent communication skills in both Swedish and English, written and verbal It is an advantage for this position if you have: • competence in numerical modeling • experience leading and conducting stability assessments • experience reviewing geotechnical documentation It is important that you enjoy external contacts, value collaboration, and can be inspired by our public mission and the breadth of work tasks.
