Subject Description The subject encompasses how housing and management of dairy cattle affect animal health, welfare and production, as well as the sustainability of milk production. The subject includes the interaction between animals, environment, technology and people at farm and system level. Duties The incumbent shall be responsible for developing research and teaching within the subject's focus area in collaboration with other researchers at the faculty and university. The incumbent shall also contribute to pedagogical development within the subject. Research can be based on both controlled experiments and production data from commercial farms, survey studies or modeling. This means the incumbent shall: develop and lead internationally successful research develop, lead and participate in teaching at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level primarily teach within subject-relevant areas, but also in other educational activities at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level where the subject is included develop and maintain national and international networks with academia, relevant authorities, industries, organizations and society at large collaborate with other research groups within SLU to strengthen the university's interdisciplinary activities secure external research funding at both national and international levels supervise doctoral students contribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty and SLU communicate research results and other relevant subject information to the surrounding society be able to teach in Swedish within four years be able to participate in discussions with colleagues and sector contacts and perform administrative tasks in Swedish within four years. The Department operates in a bilingual work environment. The University Lecturer will be able to perform most of their duties in English. As a government agency, the university has Swedish as its main language according to language legislation requirements, and the incumbent is expected to communicate in Swedish within four years from taking up the position. The Department will support the incumbent in achieving this. Qualifications The applicant shall have a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence within a subject relevant to the position have scientific competence within the subject of employment be pedagogically skilled and have the ability to integrate research and a scientific approach in teaching have experience of teaching at undergraduate and graduate level have good knowledge of English have a driver's license for a personal vehicle. Assessment Criteria The degree of competence that is a requirement for eligibility for employment shall primarily be the assessment basis for employment. In assessing scientific competence, the following are considered research activities carried out and ongoing research within the subject of employment the ability to independently initiate and conduct successful internationally recognized research the ability to obtain external research funding in competition experience as a supervisor in doctoral education. In assessing pedagogical skill, the following are considered planning, implementation, examination and evaluation of own teaching supervision and examination at undergraduate and graduate level the ability to integrate research and a scientific approach in pedagogical work university pedagogical education or equivalent knowledge pedagogical vision and reflection documented pedagogical ability. Further consideration is given to skill in developing and managing activities and personnel within academia communicating and collaborating internally collaborating with external stakeholders and surrounding society communicating research and development work. It is meritorious if the applicant has an established network within the sector in Sweden or internationally.
