The Department of Language Studies at Umeå University's Faculty of Humanities conducts education and research in languages, literature, and language pedagogy in Swedish, English, Finnish, French, Italian, Linguistics, Meänkieli, Russian, Sami, Spanish, and German. We are now recruiting a University Lecturer in South Sami at 50% with employment starting January 1, 2027. The employment is fixed-term until August 31, 2027. Job Description The position includes teaching at the introductory level in South Sami and pedagogical development work. In addition to teaching, the role includes teaching-related administration as well as staff, subject, and planning meetings. Teaching is conducted online. The employee is expected to be able to teach in North Sami, Swedish, or another Scandinavian language, and English. Professional development equivalent to 10% of the employment is included. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a University Lecturer in South Sami, you must have a degree at minimum Master's level within a relevant subject area for the position, or possess other professional competence that is relevant to the subject content and work tasks of the position. A degree at minimum Bachelor's level in South Sami is required for the position. Very good language skills in South Sami, good knowledge of Swedish or another Scandinavian language, and good knowledge of English are required for the position. Selection Criteria The selection criteria are: experience teaching South Sami at university level or in upper secondary school, experience with online teaching, experience with development work, particularly in creating and developing interactive resources, and administrative competence. The selection criteria also include good collaboration skills and the competence and suitability otherwise needed to perform the work tasks well. Weighting of Selection Criteria Particular weight will be given to experience teaching South Sami at university level or in upper secondary school and experience with online teaching. Great weight will be given to experience with development work, particularly documented ability to develop, create, and maintain interactive resources. Administrative competence and good collaboration skills, as well as the competence and suitability otherwise needed to perform the work tasks well, will be weighted in the assessment.
