The International High School of the Gothenburg Region is one of the very few high schools in Sweden that offers the Swedish national programs taught entirely in English as well as the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB Diploma Programme). Our programmes are; The IB Diploma Programme, the Social Science Program, the Natural Science Programme and the Social Science Program with courses in advanced English (Spets). The Spets programme with advanced English is unique in Sweden and entails a close cooperation with Gothenburg University. To the IB Diploma Programme and the Spets programme we apply an entrance test procedure to place the students. Our true international learning environment challenges our students to grow together with English as their language of education together with teachers and classmates from different cultural backgrounds. Many of our ambitious and motivated students plan to continue to university and higher education in English speaking countries. We can offer both students and staff possibilities to partake in various exchange programmes including traveling to different destinations around Europe and Africa. Job Responsibilities We are now seeking a student assistant to work with students in need of special support. As a student assistant you work closely with the student or students during the school day, both in and outside the classroom. This means you are present during lessons to support with schoolwork inside and outside the classroom, but may also accompany students to the dining hall, etc. The assignment includes planning, structuring, and when needed participating in carrying out schoolwork together with the student to promote learning. You will also participate in activities outside school during school hours, such as study visits, and maintain close and regular contact with guardians. The role is based on you creating good conditions for the student's learning in close collaboration with teachers, other educators, and the school's student support team. Qualifications We are looking for someone who has completed upper secondary education, preferably from a college preparatory program. Documented experience working as a student assistant or in another pedagogical role at the upper secondary level is a requirement. It is highly meritorious if you have previous experience working with students who have neurodevelopmental or neuropsychiatric disabilities (NPD) as well as experience with low-affect interaction approaches. You have a good ability to collaborate with teachers, the student support team, and the home for the student's benefit. You are clear and structured. A requirement is that you feel equally comfortable communicating orally and in writing in English as in Swedish, as our language of instruction is English. To succeed in the role, good social competence, high flexibility, patience, and a deep understanding of all individuals' different circumstances are required. You are skilled at finding individually tailored solutions and are passionate about helping students structure their work so they can develop their full potential. As an adult in school, you are a secure role model who can set boundaries when needed. You are self-directed and proactive while enjoying working as part of a team. Great weight will be placed on personal suitability. The position is a temporary appointment covering the entire school year 2026/2027.
