The Department of Social Work offers a social science education with social work as the main focus. The education emphasizes understanding social processes and developing the ability to analyze social problems. We teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Our programs lead to Bachelor's degrees in Social Work, Social Worker diplomas, and Master's degrees in Social Work. Job Responsibilities As an Academic Advisor, you will have many contacts and varied responsibilities. As an Academic Advisor, you are the department's primary contact for students needing academic and career guidance. You meet with people with different needs, and questions may concern application preparation, pedagogical support, course recognition, study leave, and resumption of studies. You are responsible for information and communication regarding courses and programs in collaboration with the Director of Studies and course instructors. You are also the contact person for prospective students and participate in welcome days and other information activities. The main responsibilities are: handling and administration together with the Director of Studies and other administrative staff, you work to further develop educational administrative procedures supporting students in achieving their goals based on each student's individual circumstances informing and guiding students with academic and career guidance communicating externally about the department's subject areas. The work includes working in the academic administrative systems used at Stockholm University, such as Ladok, Canvas, and NyA. Qualifications Requirements An academic degree as an Academic and Career Advisor, or a Social Worker diploma, or an academic degree within the department's subject area, or another academic degree that the employer considers equivalent. Experience with similar tasks. Strong ability to express yourself in speech and writing in both Swedish and English. Good computer skills and experience working in various administrative systems. Knowledge of the Swedish education system and its regulations. Meritorious Work experience from a university or college. Work experience from another government agency. Work experience in social work, if the applicant holds a Social Worker diploma. Knowledge of conversation methods. Subject knowledge within the department's area (social work). Personal Qualities Since the work involves daily contact and interaction with people, it is important that you have the ability to build good relationships. You will have many contact points within the department, and good collaboration skills are required. It is important that you find it easy to communicate information in both speech and writing in Swedish and English. You feel comfortable both in one-on-one advising conversations and speaking to groups of people. As an Academic Advisor, you should be able to handle various types of student social problems or questions in a trustworthy manner. The responsibilities demand high standards of integrity and responsibility. You should have good prioritization skills and the ability to work in a structured and solution-oriented manner. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. About the Employment The position is permanent full-time with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date November 1, 2026, or by agreement.
