Åsbackaskolan is located in Örebro and offers instruction from preschool class through grade 10 for students with congenital deafblindness and students who are deaf or have hearing loss combined with intellectual disabilities. Our staff is fluent in sign language with high specialized expertise in the needs of our target groups. We offer boarding for students who cannot commute daily to school. Åsbackaskolan accepts students from throughout Sweden who are deaf or have hearing loss combined with intellectual disabilities, or who are deafblind and who follow adapted primary school curricula with a subject area focus. We offer our students an environment that provides opportunities for participation and development. Everyone can participate in social interaction, feel a sense of belonging, and develop as individuals in a bilingual education in a sign language environment. At Åsbackaskolan, we believe that development and learning occur in all environments and at all hours of the day from a lifelong perspective. Our overarching goal is to give all our students the conditions to learn and to live as independently as possible. We place great emphasis on developing students' desire and wish for social interaction, cooperation, and communication in a sign language environment. Teaching is adapted according to each student's circumstances and needs. We work with experience-based learning as a pedagogical method. At Åsbackaskolan, we have very good access to various professions in our student support team and digital learning tools in a well-equipped IT environment. We are approximately 20 employees working at the school or at our student residences. 2 position(s). As a special education teacher with us, you will have a central role in students' development both academically and personally. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone who has: • teacher certification that gives you the qualifications to teach as a special education teacher for students with intellectual disabilities at special school. • education and/or experience working with students with intellectual disabilities and neuropsychiatric disabilities and with students who are deafblind. You must be familiar with the computer programs commonly used at the school, especially those software programs that support students with disabilities in their schoolwork. It is meritorious if you: • have experience leading a work group • have a solution-focused approach that is also engaging, guiding, and motivating. • have experience working with the "Low-Arousal Approach" method. • have experience working with alternative and augmentative communication, AAC. Great weight is given to personal suitability. The school also has student residences for certain students, which means requirements are placed on your ability to collaborate with both staff at the student residence and with other professionals connected to the student's school day. Since our sign language environment is important to us, you should master Swedish Sign Language, and if you do not speak Swedish Sign Language today, you should have a strong interest in learning the language. We have access to interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, so experience and knowledge in using such assistive devices is meritorious.
