The position belongs to the Youth Unit within the Cross-City Department for Children, Family and Safety in the Social Services Administration Center. The Youth Unit has a broad and varied mandate with a focus on preventing crime, identifying young people at risk, and supporting individuals who want to leave a criminal lifestyle. We also work to reduce serious and lethal violence linked to criminal groups. On the unit, social workers manage various assignments, including youth services, social work in close cooperation with the police, violent extremism, and the Group Violence Intervention (GVI) strategy. Collaboration is a central part of our work. We work closely with the Police Authority, the Correctional Service, other parts of social services, and external collaboration partners to create conditions for early interventions and long-term change. About the Position – Youth Services Within Youth Services, you work with one of the two youth sentences that the social services are responsible for. You have an important role in supporting and guiding young offenders through their sentence and helping to create conditions for positive change. The work involves individual conversations with young people and contact with their networks, in close cooperation with the authority-exercising social services and the workplaces that receive our young people. You are responsible for matching young people with appropriate workplaces and for planning, coordinating, and following up their youth service. Beyond the direct work with young people, you also work with issues concerning young offenders from a broader perspective. The assignment includes collaboration with, among others, the Prosecution Authority, the District Court, and other relevant parties. You also contribute your knowledge through lectures, consultation, and support to the rest of the social services. You become part of an experienced team consisting of two social workers and an established operation with a clear role in the city's work with young offenders. The work is based on a clear set of regulations, while we continuously develop our methods and working approaches to meet young people's needs. The operation's catchment area covers the entire City of Gothenburg and the Municipality of Mölndal, and you work from our centrally located office in Gothenburg. Qualifications A degree in social work or equivalent higher education is required. You must have good ability to speak and write Swedish. You have experience working with young offenders, criminality, or behavior that breaks norms. It is advantageous if you have experience exercising authority within children and youth. It is very positive if you are driven and interested in new legislation, environmental monitoring within the field, and want to be part of developing work in this area. A B driver's license is advantageous. Personal Qualities Important for the Role This is a relationship-building and boundary-setting role where you need to be responsive to needs, feelings, and opinions while being able to manage expectations, stand by decisions made, and convey difficult messages when needed. You have experience and good ability regarding independent work in collaboration with other authorities and professional groups. You also need to be comfortable conducting trainings and lectures. As a person, you are structured by planning, organizing, and prioritizing your work efficiently. You ensure that work is completed on time and follow up on results.
