Social Secretary for Financial Assistance Services
GÖTEBORGS KOMMUN · Full-time
Göteborgs Stad, Göteborg, Sweden
Description "In our work with people, the tasks vary greatly. Much of this is because financial assistance consists of different components: motivational work together with clients, as well as economic and legal matters. We face many challenges, but our expertise combined with support from colleagues and management strengthens us and creates a sense of security." This is how two of our social secretaries describe their work in the financial assistance unit. The Income Support Department works with administrative authority and consists of a reception unit and four equivalent units that handle long-term assistance cases. The units are located at two local offices, one at Höstvädersgatan 1 in Biskopsgården, and one at Dunfins gata 20-22 in Hisings Backa. We are now seeking new staff members for Financial Assistance Units 3 and 4 at the social office on Dunfins gata. Today, each unit consists of 13 social secretaries, one social administrator, two senior social secretaries, and one unit manager. The units work closely together, so if you join us, you will have many colleagues! Job Responsibilities As a social secretary, you will work with two assignments. One involves motivating and directing individuals toward services that help them become self-sufficient or overcome isolation, based on their needs. The other assignment involves investigating and assessing entitlement to financial assistance. In your work, you will collaborate with other actors such as the Administration for Employment and Adult Education, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, healthcare services, the Swedish Public Employment Service, and internal actors within social services. We offer you interesting and stimulating work, supported by engaged and knowledgeable colleagues. There are great opportunities to shape your own work within the scope of your assignment. We also provide process and methodology supervision, and there is continuous development work ongoing within the operation. New legislation came into force during 2026, which gives us new conditions and opportunities to support individuals in need of financial assistance. This means we are in a development process, and if you join us, you will have the chance to be part of this change journey from the beginning. In our daily work, we place great emphasis on a good work environment. The units have an important mission and we want to provide social secretaries with the best conditions for doing quality social work. Qualifications We are looking for someone with a degree in social work. We would like you to have previous experience working with income support, but what is most important to us is that you have the right skills for the assignment. To succeed in this role, it is important that you can both exercise administrative authority and simultaneously support and motivate individuals. As a person, you are communicative and have a good ability to express yourself in speech and writing. You are also organized and able to follow procedures and guidelines. Since you will meet people in vulnerable situations in your work, you must be professional in your role and have good interpersonal skills. Because you will collaborate with many different actors, the work requires that you have good teamwork abilities and are receptive to feedback. Do you think, as we do, that this is an exciting and important assignment? We welcome your application! Other Information Selection work will take place on an ongoing basis during the application period. For your interview, you need to bring your passport/national ID and possibly proof of residence permit if you have citizenship outside the EU/EES. This is so we as an employer can verify your identity and ensure you have the right to work in Sweden. Göteborgs Stad applies individual and differentiated salary setting.
