The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the hospital in Västerås is looking for you to be part of providing the best care to critically ill patients. Care is provided here around the clock, every day of the year. You will work with advanced technology and highly specialized care together with a dedicated and knowledgeable team. Job Responsibilities As a nurse in the ICU, you work closely with patients in acute need of intensive care. You are part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of nursing assistants, physicians, and physiotherapists who together plan and provide care. You will be an important part of the entire care process and have the opportunity to make a real difference in patients' lives. The unit is high-tech, and after internal training you will receive a certificate for medical equipment. We invest in continuous development and have several responsibility groups that drive improvement initiatives. Additionally, you will receive comprehensive orientation over 10 weeks, with the possibility of extension, and a mentor during your first year of work so you feel secure and develop in your role. The Intensive Care Unit at Västmanlands Hospital Västerås focuses on general intensive care. We currently have up to 8 care beds and approximately 850 patients per year. Our goal is to eventually increase the number of care beds. Here you meet patients of all ages with different diagnoses, so the variation is as great as the expertise is high. It is exciting to be part of this advanced form of care. In the operating clinic, which the intensive care unit belongs to, we use a time-value model. It leads to better schedules with opportunities for recovery when working on rotation. The employment entails shared responsibility for staffing all days and hours. The calculations in the model are based on a full-time measure of 38.25 hours per week. For night work only, the weekly working time is 32 hours as a full-time measure. Experience in intensive care work is advantageous. We also welcome you if you are a basic educated nurse with at least two years of experience in acute care. For you, it is important that you have a strong interest in intensive care and a clear desire to further educate yourself as a specialist nurse in intensive care in the near future. As a person, you are confident, responsible, and dedicated. You have good judgment and the ability to make well-considered prioritizations even when the situation is complex or the pace is high. You remain calm in stressful situations and can focus on what is most important for the patient and the team. The work requires that you are clear in your communication and can convey information in a structured and reassuring way. You have an important role in directing and distributing nursing care and creating conditions for well-functioning teamwork. We value your ability to collaborate and to meet patients, relatives, and colleagues with attentiveness, respect, and empathy.
