The eye care department provides basic and, to some extent, highly specialized ophthalmic care for Gotland's approximately 60,000 residents. The department operates in close collaboration with other surgical and medical specialties. Continuous efforts are made to further develop the department and thereby improve care for the population of Gotland. We have approximately 13,000-14,000 visits per year where we provide outpatient services in general ophthalmology, cataract surgery, and eyelid surgery, as well as medical retina consultations with injection procedures. The department has primary on-call responsibility during daytime and standby on-call duty on weekends. Patients requiring highly specialized care are referred primarily to the eye clinics at St Eriks Eye Hospital or Academic Hospital in Uppsala. We have continuously recurring consultant physicians with special expertise in pediatric ophthalmology, corneal diseases, cataract surgery, and plastic surgery, for example for surgery of tumors, eyelids, tear ducts, and strabismus. We have approximately 3-4 specialists per week and 1-2 resident physicians. Our team includes roles such as ophthalmic nurse, nurse, nursing assistant, optician, and orthoptist. The clinic is well-equipped with, among other things, multispot laser, YAG laser, Humphrey perimetry, and OCT. As a nurse, you will gain both breadth and depth within your area of expertise as Visby Hospital, the island's only acute hospital, handles all eye patients on the island. Your responsibilities The eye care department at Visby Hospital is a small and well-functioning workplace. You will have varied responsibilities with great opportunities to develop your personal abilities. We also work extensively as a team when you assist with, for example, cataract surgery, other procedures, injections, and when you perform preliminary examinations before doctor visits. Based on your experience and educational background, you will perform independent measurements and various eye examinations such as visual field testing, intraocular pressure measurement, fundus photography, and vision screening. Telephone consultation is also part of your responsibilities. It would be of interest if, following training, you could perform eye injections, which are a large part of our work and a delegated task. We work with the TakeCare journal system and Topcon's and Haag Streit image management systems. About you We are looking for someone who is trained as an ophthalmic nurse or nurse with experience or strong interest in working within eye care. You could also be an operating room nurse with an interest in ophthalmology who would like to perform some tasks outside the operating room. As a general nurse, experience with outpatient care work is an asset. We consider it self-evident that you have the ability and willingness to help develop the department and that you are happy to contribute new ideas. In your patient interactions, you are trustworthy and empathetic. You have good teamwork skills, are attentive, and have the ability to adapt your approach and demeanor based on the individual and situation. Great weight is placed on personal suitability. Before an employment decision is made, a background check will be conducted through a criminal record extract. Why choose Region Gotland?
