School Counselor – Parental Leave Substitute Position

Internationella Engelska Skolan Sigtuna is seeking an engaged and thoughtful school counselor to join our student support team in a substitute position starting October 1, 2026.
The position is initially at 50% from October through the winter break, with planned expansion of hours from January 2027.
IES Sigtuna is a grades F–9 school where we place great emphasis on creating a safe, calm, and supportive school environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed. As a school counselor, you will be an important part of the school's student support team (EHT) and will work closely with school leadership, teachers, special education staff, school nurses, and other members of the student support services.
About the Position
As a school counselor, you will among other things:
- Provide individual support and counseling sessions for students.
- Work preventatively and promotively to strengthen students' well-being, attendance, and sense of safety at school.
- Actively participate in the school's student support team (EHT).
- Support and guide staff on matters relating to students' social and emotional needs.
- Collaborate closely with students, guardians, and school staff.
- Liaise with external organizations and authorities as needed, such as social services and child mental health services.
- Contribute to the school's work on safety, attendance, and a conducive learning environment.
- Manage relevant documentation in accordance with Swedish legislation and school procedures.
Who Are You?
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children and young people and who understands the importance of building strong and trusting relationships with students.
You are calm, professional, and approachable, while being confident in setting clear boundaries and working collaboratively with others. You communicate effectively with students, guardians, and colleagues and can handle sensitive and complex situations with good judgment and high integrity.
You have relevant education in social work or a related field. Experience working as a school counselor or within Swedish school operations is advantageous.
Since IES is an international and bilingual school environment, strong proficiency in both Swedish and English is important for this position.
