The Prison Administration is a state administration institution under the Ministry of Justice that implements state policy in the field of detention as a preventive measure and execution of deprivation of liberty as a criminal penalty.
An official is a person with appropriate professional education, qualifications, and special service rank who has taken an oath and serves in the Administration. The rights and duties of officials are determined by the Prison Administration Law and the Service Career Law for Officials with Special Service Ranks in the Ministry of Interior System Institutions and the Prison Administration.

Requirements for Candidates:
Compliance with requirements established in the Service Career Law for Officials with Special Service Ranks in the Ministry of Interior System Institutions and the Prison Administration:
be a citizen of Latvia;
age between 18 and 50 years;
professional higher education required for job duties – Master's degree in Psychology;
compliance with requirements established in the Psychologists Law and practical experience;
certification that the psychologist is registered in the Register of Psychologists;
supervision agreement concluded with a certified psychologist-supervisor (in the field of legal psychology or clinical psychology) or psychologist certification;
Knowledge of Latvian language at least at Level C, Stage 2;
physical fitness meeting requirements set by the Cabinet of Ministers (Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 288 of 28.05.2013 "Physical Fitness Requirements for Officials with Special Service Ranks in the Ministry of Interior System Institutions and Prison Administration");
health status and psychological characteristics meeting requirements set by the Cabinet of Ministers (Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 970 of 21.11.2006 "Regulations on Health Status and Psychological Characteristics Required for Officials with Special Service Ranks in the Ministry of Interior System Institutions and Prison Administration and Candidates for Such Positions, and the Procedure for Examining Health Status and Psychological Characteristics");
not convicted of an intentional criminal offense – regardless of deletion or removal of conviction;
not sentenced for an intentional criminal offense with exemption from punishment;
not prosecuted for committing an intentional criminal offense, except in cases where the official was prosecuted but criminal proceedings were terminated on rehabilitative grounds;
not recognized as legally incapable in the manner established by law;
not dismissed from service in the Ministry of Interior system or Prison Administration due to disciplinary action – dismissal from service;
excellent computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint);
ability to plan and organize work, execute assigned tasks in priority order;
good communication skills, high psychological resilience;
ability to work both as a team and individually;
high sense of responsibility, analytical thinking, ability to work in high-intensity conditions.
Responsibilities:
Provide individual psychological consultations to inmates;
Provide psychological support to inmates in groups;
Participate within area of competence in assessment of inmates' risks and needs;
Cooperate with other department officials and employees – participate in development of inmates' resocialization (sentence execution) plans, evaluation of plan implementation, and plan adjustments in psychological care;
Conduct psychological examination of inmates, including assessment of suicide risk behavior;
Provide first psychological aid in cases of suicide attempts and crises;
Assess psychological condition of inmates, provide necessary recommendations upon request of Prison Administration;
Prepare psychologist expert opinions;
Create and maintain psychological documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
