In the heart of Jönköping, Sofiakyrkan rises toward the heavens. The city's and diocese's largest church. Generous opening hours make the church a living and secluded place for the meeting between heaven and earth, God and humanity.
Sofiakyrkan is something of "the city's cathedral." The legacy of Anders Blomqvist lives on in a rich liturgy with a high church character. Services and spiritual life are characterized by great participation.
At Sofiakyrkan, services are held almost every day of the week. Music and choirs hold a strong position and musical services are frequent.
Now we are looking for you—a priest who, together with engaged worshippers, wants to deepen and develop the service, liturgy, and church space.
A mission for you who love the Swedish Church's high mass
As a priest at Sofiakyrkan, you will have special responsibility to, together with church wardens, service leaders, and activity councils, care for, develop, and shape:
The church's spiritual and worship life
The church space in its entirety and its parts.
You work closely and collaboratively with church wardens, parish manager, priests, musicians, educators, deacons, custodians, and many others.
In faithfulness to tradition, you help make the space and rituals accessible to new generations.
You are part of the West parish area with Sofiakyrkan, Slottskapellet, Bymarkskyrkan, Järstorps kyrka, and Dalvikskyrkan, which is a collaborative church with EFS. The district of Strandängen is also here, where new ways of being church are being explored.
At the same time, you are part of Jönköping parish with access to meeting places with colleagues and many others.
Your tasks will include:
driving and leading development work at Sofiakyrkan; both the space and the rituals.
involving church wardens, service leaders, and staff in the processes.
making the newly established church park an attractive and peaceful part of the church's life.
offering symbol walks to schools together with educators.
working to make Sofiakyrkan a meeting place and hub for the entire parish.
taking responsibility for the parish's worship life, church ceremonies, teaching, and pastoral care.
