Postdoctoral Researcher in Modeling and Digital Twin
Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan · Full-time
Brinellvägen 8, Stockholm, Sweden
Job Description Would you like to build a physics-based model and a digital twin of how bio-based materials are pressed and dried? We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Fiber and Polymer Technology at KTH. In a Formas-funded project in collaboration with Hitachi Energy and Nordic Seafarm, we are developing knowledge and tools to reduce energy consumption in dewatering and drying of bio-based materials. Your role is to develop a robust numerical model of mechanical dewatering and subsequent thermal drying and further develop it into a validated digital twin of the process. You will work within a continuum framework for porous media coupled with heat transfer including phase change—and implement the model in existing codes and/or COMSOL with AI support. You will calibrate and validate the model against experimental data, demonstrate a digital twin on industrial or lab data, and work closely with an experimental postdoctoral researcher and with the industrial partners. Qualifications Required Completed doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree. This qualification requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made. Documented scientific competence in numerical modeling and simulation of coupled physical phenomena, demonstrated through publications. Experience with finite element or finite volume methods as well as scientific programming, e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++ or Fortran. Very good knowledge of English in speech and writing, as it is required in daily work. As a person, you are independent, take initiative, and have good collaboration skills in an interdisciplinary environment. Meriting At the application deadline, no more than three years since completion of your doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. Experience with COMSOL Multiphysics or equivalent software for multiphysics simulation. Experience modeling dewatering, drying, or wet pressing of pulp, paper, or fiber networks. Experience calibrating and validating models against experimental data, or with digital twins and reduced models. Pedagogical ability. Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with particular focus on gender equality. We will place great emphasis on personal qualities. Become Part of KTH KTH shapes the future through education, research, and innovation. Application You apply through KTH's recruitment system. As an applicant, you have the main responsibility for ensuring that your application is complete when submitted. The application must contain: CV including relevant work experience and knowledge. Copy of your diploma and grades from your previous university studies. Translations into English or Swedish if the original documents are not issued in either of these languages. A brief account of why you want to conduct research, your academic interests, and how they relate to your previous studies and future goals. Maximum 2 pages. The application must be received by KTH no later than the application deadline at midnight, CET/CEST (Central European Time/Central European Summer Time). About the Position The position is permanent, but no longer than two years. A postdoctoral position is a time-limited merit-based position primarily focused on research intended as a first career step after earning a doctoral degree.
