Uppsala University hereby announces a postdoctoral position at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Division of Materials Theory. The Division of Materials Theory conducts world-class research in solid-state theory, using both numerical and analytical methods. The research focuses on magnetism, electronic structure, topological phases, correlation phenomena, and materials for green energy. Job Responsibilities The postdoctoral position involves work in a larger theoretical environment focusing on the development and application of methods for simulating magnetism, particularly atomic and multiscale simulations. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading experimental and theoretical groups at Uppsala University and other Swedish universities with a research focus on functional magnetic materials. Qualifications A doctorate in physics or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctorate in physics, with good knowledge of solid-state theory, must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preferably, the degree should have been obtained no more than three years ago. When calculating the three-year period, the reference point is the final application deadline. If there are special circumstances, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within labor organizations, etc. The successful candidate is expected to have expertise in atomic or micromagnetic simulation methods, where both software development and application of these methods are important and are evaluation parameters. Good communication skills in both spoken and written English. Desirable/Additional Merits Experience with the development of multiscale methods, for example implementation on GPU architecture, and their applications to magnetism is considered particularly meritorious.
