Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Characterization of Dewatering
Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan · Full-time
Brinellvägen 8, Stockholm, Sweden
Responsibilities Would you like to use advanced imaging to see what happens inside bio-based materials when they are pressed and dried? We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Fiber and Polymer Technology at KTH. In a Formas-funded project in collaboration with Hitachi Energy and Nordic Seafarm, we are developing knowledge and tools to reduce energy consumption during dewatering and drying of bio-based materials. Your role is to establish the experimental methodology and generate data showing the state of cellulose fiber mats during pressing and heating. You will design and build an industrially relevant laboratory-scale hot press, plan and conduct measurements at neutron and X-ray facilities (e.g., ISIS and MAX IV/ESRF), and apply methods such as tomography, OCT, and NMR to capture water transport, vapor generation, and structural development. You will collect industrial reference data, analyze and publish the results, and work closely with a modeling postdoctoral researcher and the industrial partners. Qualifications Requirements Completed doctoral degree or foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This qualification requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made. Documented scientific expertise in experimental characterization of cellulose-based fiber materials, demonstrated through publications. Experience with advanced scattering or measurement methods, such as X-ray or neutron techniques, OCT, or NMR. Excellent proficiency in English, both spoken and written, as required for daily work. As a person, you are independent, take initiative, and have good collaboration skills in an interdisciplinary environment. Meritorious At the application deadline, no more than three years since completion of doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. Experience with measurements at synchrotron or neutron facilities, including beamtime applications and data analysis. Experience in designing and building experimental equipment, such as pressing or drying rigs. Experience in dewatering and drying of pulp, paper, or other bio-based materials. Pedagogical abilities. Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues, with particular focus on gender equality. We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
