Would you like to work with drug development, supported by competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Would you like an employer that invests in sustainable employee relations and offers secure, favorable working conditions? We welcome your application for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University. The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is divided into seven research programs, all focusing on different areas within cell and molecular biology: computational biology and bioinformatics, microbiology and immunology, molecular biology, molecular biophysics, molecular evolution, molecular systems biology, and structural biology. The scientific foundation of our work lies in biology, but our research overlaps with other areas such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, and physics. The department has over 200 employees with around 60 doctoral students. Learn more about the department's work at https://icm.uu.se. The position will be placed in Jens Carlsson's research group within the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics program. Jens Carlsson's research focuses on computational modeling of proteins with particular emphasis on G-protein coupled receptors. Jens Carlsson's group uses modeling to understand how receptors function at the molecular level and develops methods to identify drug candidates, often in collaboration with experimental research groups. It is an international research team that is also part of Science for Life Laboratory (http://www.scilifelab.se/). More information about the group's research can be found on its website (www.carlssonlab.org). Responsibilities The project is aimed at studying how drugs bind to G-protein coupled receptors using computational models. The project's main goal is to understand how small molecules affect receptors by studying them at the molecular level and using this knowledge to develop new strategies for drug development. The project also includes close collaborations with experimental research groups in pharmacology and structural biology. Qualification Requirements Doctoral degree in computational chemistry or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree in the same field. The degree must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made. Preferably, the degree should have been obtained within the last three years. When calculating the three-year period, the starting point is the final application deadline. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, trust assignments within trade union organizations, etc. Very good knowledge of computational chemistry with extensive experience in molecular dynamics simulations for G-protein coupled receptors is required. The work requires good written and oral proficiency in English as the project is conducted in an international environment. We place great emphasis on personal qualities such as good teamwork ability, motivation, and independence. Desired/Meriting Qualifications Previous experience from the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is strongly meriting. Previous experience in modeling of aminergic receptors, machine learning, and molecular docking is also meriting. About the Position The employment is fixed-term for two years according to a central collective agreement. The position is full-time. Start date February 1, 2027, or by agreement. Location: Uppsala Information about the position is provided by: Jens Carlsson, [email protected], Tel: 072 227 7976. Welcome to submit your application by October 5, 2026, UFV-PA 2026/2736. Uppsala University is a broad research university with strong international standing. The ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a difference in society. Our most important asset is all 7,500 employees and 53,000 students who, with curiosity and commitment, make Uppsala University one of the country's most exciting workplaces.
