with focus on ultrasound and hyperspectral-based sensing Luleå tekniska universitet is in strong growth with world-leading expertise in several research areas. Our scientific and artistic research and education are conducted in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå tekniska universitet has an annual turnover of more than 2.3 billion kronor. We employ more than 1,800 staff and have nearly 21,600 students. We are seeking an ambitious and creative postdoctor who wants to contribute to cutting-edge research in control and instrumentation applications focused on the profile area(s) below. The postdoctoral position offers great opportunities for interaction with other researchers from multidisciplinary areas, participation in academic conferences, experience in scientific publishing and other personal and professional development. It is also an excellent stepping stone to a more permanent position for high-performing researchers. The project will be conducted at Luleå tekniska universitet's campus in Luleå. Subject Description Control systems engineering encompasses analysis and synthesis of models and model-based algorithms for regulation, estimation and monitoring in complex dynamic systems. Project Description Control systems engineering and instrumentation are becoming increasingly important due to the need for high-quality data and information to monitor, make decisions and take appropriate action in almost all processes involving automation. The postdoctoral researcher will join the research group in InAFQual, a project funded by Interreg Aurora, a funding program within the European Interreg community for cross-border cooperation 2021-2027 in the northernmost part of Europe and Sápmi. InAFQual addresses the challenges of developing affordable, innovative solutions for monitoring food quality by integrating spectral-based sensing, including ultrasound and hyperspectral imaging (HSI), artificial intelligence (AI) and Tiny Machine Learning (TinyML). Duties As a postdoctoral researcher, you are expected to perform both experimental and theoretical work within your research studies and communicate your results at national and international conferences and in scientific journals. The majority of your working time will be devoted to your own research studies. You will work closely with your academic supervisor and project partners. Additionally, you have the opportunity to be involved in other academic roles, such as teaching, lab demonstrations and mentoring of undergraduate students. You also have ample opportunities for education and professional development. As a researcher, you work as a neutral party in many contexts, which provides an excellent opportunity to be involved in challenging development projects. Qualifications To be qualified for the position, you must have a doctoral degree in control systems engineering, computer science, mechatronics engineering, physics, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or other related fields. Experience with experimental ultrasound sensing and hyperspectral imaging is necessary. Knowledge of Python programming, particularly with Python libraries such as Spectral Python (spectral), NumPy, SciPy and OpenCV, as well as familiarity with at least one technical design software such as MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW or similar software is required. Experience working with quality monitoring of food and/or agricultural products is highly desirable. Experience in developing electronic hardware with sensors and microcontroller systems is meritorious. Strong scientific skills and experience with real experiments, as well as effective communication skills, both written and oral, are considered a major plus. You need to be independent and at the same time a good team player. You will represent the group on various occasions, both in Sweden and around the world, therefore good knowledge of English is required. Information The duration of this position is 2 years, expected to start as soon as possible, before February 2027. Placement: Luleå Campus. Start: Preferably before February 2027.
