Job Responsibilities We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong interest in intelligent systems where artificial intelligence, human decision-making, or a combination of these interact with dynamic environments. The successful candidate is expected to have a solid background in one or more of the following areas: applied mathematics, systems and control theory, game theory, machine learning, optimization, and decision-making. The project aims to develop mathematical foundations and computational methods for analyzing, learning, and coordinating complex feedback systems consisting of three closely interconnected components: a dynamic environment, algorithmic decision-makers, and strategic or adaptive agents. In such systems, decisions not only affect the physical environment but also influence other agents' behaviors and the data subsequently available for learning. These feedback effects create fundamental challenges concerning stability, identifiability, performance, and robustness that cannot be addressed by studying learning, control, and strategic interaction separately. The research will investigate how these interconnected systems can be modeled, analyzed, and designed to achieve reliable system-level outcomes. The overarching goal is to leverage insights from feedback decision-making to design intelligent systems that are more efficient, sustainable, resilient, and reliable. Selected candidates will also be enrolled in the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems, and Software Program (WASP), providing privileged access to its comprehensive resources. WASP is Sweden's largest single research program in modern times. The program creates a platform for academic research and education in close collaboration with leading Swedish technology-intensive industry. The research encompasses artificial intelligence and autonomous systems that operate in collaboration with humans and adapt to their environment using sensors, information, and knowledge, creating intelligent systems of systems. WASP's vision is excellent research and expertise in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and software for the benefit of Swedish industry. Qualifications Requirements Completed doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made. A solid foundation in mathematical methods and tools relevant to the project. Documented outstanding research merits and publications in well-renowned journals or conferences with significant impact. Very strong analytical ability and documented ability to work both independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary research environments.
