Department of Applied Animal Science and Welfare About the Position We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher for an interdisciplinary research project on sustainable aquaculture. The project is part of the Centre for Blue Food (FORMAS) and focuses on how new protein and lipid sources in fish feed affect fish metabolism, gut microbiota, and product quality. New and more sustainable protein sources for fish feed have been studied intensively. There is also a significant need to develop and evaluate sustainable lipid sources. In this project, protein and lipid sources produced through fermentation of low-value substrates will be investigated. Special emphasis will be placed on the interaction between feed composition and fish gut microbiota and how this affects fish metabolism, health, and fillet quality. The work will be conducted in collaboration with researchers in fish nutrition and microbiology, among other fields. The project combines feeding trials with advanced methods in metabolomics and microbiome analysis. Your responsibilities will include: planning and conducting research on alternative protein and lipid sources in fish feed participating in the planning and execution of fish feeding trials investigating relationships between feed, metabolism, gut microbiota, fish health, and fillet quality analyzing biological samples and processing complex biological data compiling, analyzing, and interpreting research results writing scientific articles for publication in international scientific journals presenting research results at national and international conferences collaborating with researchers from different disciplines and with external project partners Your Background We are looking for someone with a doctoral degree in, for example, animal science, biology, aquaculture, fish nutrition, or another relevant field. You should have a clear interest in fish nutrition and sustainable food production. Required qualifications: Doctoral degree in an area relevant to the position Documented experience in research on fish nutrition, aquaculture, or related fields Documented experience with microbiome and metabolome analyses Experience with analysis and statistical processing of biological data Documented experience in scientific publishing Excellent ability to express yourself in English, both orally and in writing Ability to plan and conduct research both independently and in collaboration with others B-level driving license Meritorious experience includes: fish feeding trials research on alternative or circular feed resources analyses related to fish health, product quality, or nutrient flows interdisciplinary research collaborations Great weight will be placed on personal qualities. You should be proactive, thorough, and analytical, with strong ability to collaborate and communicate within an interdisciplinary research environment. This position is intended for a junior researcher. We are therefore primarily seeking individuals who completed their doctoral degree no more than three years ago.
