Do you enjoy designing in CAD and want to work with welded steel structures that move directly into production? We are now seeking a mechanical design engineer for a position in the marine defense industry in Lund, where you will join a department that designs hulls and platforms for submarines. About the Role As a mechanical design engineer, you will design hulls or platforms for submarines – the role can focus on either area, with design work being a major part of your daily responsibilities. Within hulls, you work with the entire submarine, from the pressure hull's heavy steel structures to composite form hulls. Tasks vary depending on the project phase, and you maintain close dialogue with calculation and production teams. Within platforms, you design heavy steel, sheet metal, and beam structures onboard, such as floor and beam structures, supporting frames and hatches, fire protection, and walls – while coordinating with procurement and subcontractors. Currently, the focus is on adapting and improving existing designs to make them simpler, more efficient, and faster to manufacture – from material selection to component replacement. The work is characterized by pace and optimization, and occasional travel to Karlskrona may occur. Summary of Responsibilities: Detailed design and final design of hulls or platforms in CAD Optimization of existing designs based on production requirements Generation of technical drawings for production Handling of changes during production and on existing submarines Coordination with procurement, calculation, production, and other design groups About You You enjoy design work and working in CAD, and it's a plus if you're also driven to find new, smarter solutions. You'll be entering a fast-paced environment, so you need to be stress-resilient and able to drive your work forward even when things are busy. At the same time, you're receptive and humble – you readily take on guidance, collaborate easily, and aren't afraid to ask questions. We are looking for someone with: A degree as a technical engineer or civil engineer in mechanical engineering, mechanics, or product development At least one year of experience with design work in CAD Strong knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written Ability to undergo and be approved for a security clearance prior to employment, which may require specific citizenship. Meritorious: Experience with Creo Experience with Windchill Military background Practical experience with or interest in mechanics, such as welding or working on cars Additional design experience or personal technical projects, for example with 3D printers About the Company The client company is an established player in the defense industry that develops and builds submarines.
