About the Company GKN Aerospace Sweden is part of GKN Aerospace, which manufactures engine components, aircraft structures, cabin windows, wiring, and much more for many of the world's aircraft. The companies in the Aerospace division working with engine components together form Engines, and at the facility in Trollhättan, advanced engine parts for aircraft and space rockets are developed and manufactured. They also perform engine maintenance. GKN Aerospace has production facilities in Trollhättan, Kongsberg (Norway), Mexico, and the USA. They also have an engineering office in Bangalore, India, and offices in Stockholm (Public Affairs) and Gothenburg. The headquarters for Engines is located in Trollhättan. You will become part of the Materials Engineering department within Engineering Operations, where approximately 30 employees work in areas such as chemical laboratory, metallography, and thermal spraying. The department supports production, product development, and research through materials engineering analyses, laboratory testing, and development projects. Your Responsibilities As a laboratory investigator with us, you work in the materials laboratory with analyses, testing, and technical investigations related to both ongoing production and development projects. The role offers great variety, and you will collaborate closely with colleagues from production, research, and product development. You will have the opportunity to work with advanced laboratory equipment and contribute to ensuring the quality of some of the world's most technologically advanced products. The work consists of both practical laboratory tasks and analysis work. Your responsibilities will include: • Sample preparation and materials testing • Metallographic sample preparation, water cutting, and work with laboratory equipment • Microscopic analyses with light and laser microscopes • Hardness testing and other material evaluations • Documentation of results and preparation of technical reports • Participation in projects as a materials engineering resource You will also contribute to the department's continuous improvement efforts and collaborate with colleagues in the laboratory's various specialist areas. Your Profile We are looking for someone with higher education in materials engineering or other relevant technical education. You have an interest in materials, analysis work, and laboratory operations, and thrive in an environment where quality and accuracy are critical. To succeed in this role, we would prefer that you have: • Experience from laboratory, testing, or inspection operations • Experience with metallographic sample preparation or other relevant laboratory equipment • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written • Good computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office • Experience with the SAP business system, manufacturing industry, or materials engineering processes is a merit. As a person, you are curious, responsible, and quality-conscious. You have a desire to develop, take ownership of your tasks, and enjoy working both independently and with others. We also believe you are hands-on and appreciate the combination of laboratory work and technical problem-solving. The position requires that you undergo and are approved according to applicable security clearance requirements.
