About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating and expanding, and we are now seeking additional staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities and inmate transportation. The Transport Department (TA) has the mission to transport and supervise incarcerated persons. It is our clients who are moved between remand facilities and prisons, to court hearings and hospitals, and more. TA also transports incarcerated persons on behalf of, for example, the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Swedish Migration Agency and psychiatric services. Job Description As a correctional officer in the Transport Department, you are part of a team consisting of two to four people where everyone is responsible for different roles in conducting inmate transports. You meet a wide variety of clients in varying ages, with different backgrounds and experiences. You conduct searches, place restraints on clients and supervise the client during transport. The Transport Department's mission is varied and it means that your working hours can vary from day to day. Evening, night and weekend work may be included. The times in the schedule are framework hours, typically 8:00-17:00. Nationally, it is more common to finish before the framework time ends and in most cases you have a fixed start time. Framework hours mean that the employer can change the start and end times. Changes are communicated before the previous shift ends. For example, a shift can be between 7:00-19:00 (12 hours) or 09:00-16:00 (7 hours). Working hours are settled every three months. If you have worked more than expected, you receive overtime pay. If you have worked less than expected, you still receive your regular salary. The Transport Department Mariestad is a newly opened office and the introduction will therefore be conducted in Gothenburg for approximately three weeks. During the first months of employment, you will also need to be prepared to work in Gothenburg during certain periods. This is part of establishing the operation in Mariestad and gives you the opportunity to receive a good introduction, gain experience and build contacts within the Transport Department. After that, your primary placement will be in Mariestad. After a period of service, you are offered a place in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic training, which is mandatory and covers 8 weeks. You will also be trained in carrying OC spray. You receive salary throughout the entire training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments are conducted regarding your suitability for permanent employment. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment and integrity. Together with your colleagues you run the operation, so you need to have good cooperation skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required. For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual and belief in people's will and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture and group affiliation affect you and others. Furthermore, you are expected through your approach to contribute to everyone being treated equitably. We place great importance on personal suitability. We are looking for you who have: Work experience, also in the form of seasonal work, hourly employment or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant Good knowledge of the Swedish language both spoken and written Good computer skills B-class driving license and good driving skills It is also meritorious to have: Work experience from the prison and probation service, security work, social care, psychiatry or health and care work Knowledge in relevant areas, for example behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law and conflict management Relevant language skills Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions that are relevant for the position.
