About the Swedish Correctional Service The Swedish Correctional Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for correctional institutions, community corrections, remand facilities, and inmate transportation. Job Description As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. You can choose to work at a remand facility, institution, or transportation unit. Working at an institution is varied: care work, supervision, searches, and security work are combined with release planning and counseling and motivational work. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Correctional Service's fundamental values of a humane perspective, respect for the individual, and the belief that people are capable of development. You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive a three-week introduction. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Correctional Service's basic training program, which is mandatory and covers 8 weeks. You will receive salary throughout the entire training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your suitability for permanent employment. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and clear communication. You must be able to act physically when required. For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Correctional Service's fundamental values of a humane perspective, respect for the individual, and the belief in people's willingness and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect both yourself and others. Furthermore, through your approach, you are expected to contribute to everyone being treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. We are looking for someone who has: Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Correctional Service considers relevant Work experience, including in the form of seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form Good computer skills It is also an asset to have: Work experience from correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and care work Knowledge in relevant areas, for example behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management Relevant language skills Other Information The Swedish Correctional Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions that are relevant to the position.
