About the Swedish Prison Service The Swedish Prison Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating existing ones, and expanding. We are now hiring more staff. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the government agency responsible for prisons, probation services, jails, and inmate transport. Job Description As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team with daily contact with clients. Work duties at a prison/jail vary: care, supervision, search procedures, and security work are combined with release planning and counseling/motivational work. Work at a jail is often routine-based and focused on care and security duties. Clients may be held in jail for long periods without seeing anyone other than their lawyer and jail staff, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer. You are part of the team that works closest to clients – you are the one who locks and unlocks, escorts clients to different activities, and ensures that daily operations function smoothly, always with a focus on security. You will begin your employment at the workplace where you will receive a three-week orientation. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Prison Service's basic training program, which is mandatory and comprises 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout your training period. During your probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your suitability for permanent employment. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and clear communication. You should be able to act physically when required. For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison Service's core values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in people's willingness and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group belonging affect you and others. Furthermore, through your approach, you are expected to contribute to everyone being treated equally. We place great importance on personal suitability. We are looking for someone who has: Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison Service considers relevant Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Good Swedish language skills, both spoken and written Good computer skills It is also an advantage to have: Work experience from the correctional service, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management Relevant language skills Class B driver's license An information meeting and interviews will take place on October 13 and 14 at the Nyköping prison facility. Other Information The Swedish Prison Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with screening questions relevant to the position. Your answers to the screening questions and your CV will form the basis for whether you are qualified to proceed in the process. To be considered for employment with the Swedish Prison Service, you must meet high standards regarding suitability, judgment, security and confidentiality awareness, and compliance with applicable laws. This means you uphold democratic values and the state values that apply to the Swedish Prison Service's operations.
