About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more staff members. The Umeå operations area includes the closed correctional facility Umeå, the open correctional facility Sörbyn, and the remand prison Umeå. We are undergoing significant capacity expansion and much is happening in the operations area in the form of renovations and new construction. The largest professional group is correctional officers, but we also employ care professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others. At Sörbyn facility, inmates are engaged in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in the kitchen, carpentry shop, plant cultivation, textile production, etc. Sörbyn is an agricultural facility with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At Umeå facility, inmates are engaged in wood/industrial work, kitchen operations, learning centers, and treatment programs. The Umeå facility and remand prison are about a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, and Sörbyn is best reached by car. Staff parking is available at all units. Job Description As a cook, you prepare meals for inmates at the correctional facilities and remand prison. The work tasks are all those found in a large-scale kitchen: joint planning, procurement, preparation of lunch and dinner, and handling breakfast orders. The duties also include cleaning the kitchen premises, dishwashing, and self-inspection in accordance with applicable regulations. Preparation and handling of special diets are included. Work is carried out in collaboration with other kitchen staff and personnel in other functions. An important part of the daily work involves supervising clients in the kitchen. You will receive an introduction when you start and will receive further training with education required for the position. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and has self-awareness. You remain calm and controlled in stressful situations and collaborate well with others. You have good judgment and take responsibility for your tasks.
