About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating existing ones, and expanding capacity. We are now seeking more staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for correctional facilities, probation services, detention centers, and inmate transportation. The Umeå operational area encompasses the closed facility Umeå, the open facility Sörbyn, and the detention center Umeå. We are undergoing significant capacity increases, and much is happening in our operational area in the form of renovations and new construction. The largest occupational group is correctional officers, but we also employ healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others. At Sörbyn facility, inmates are engaged in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in the kitchen, carpentry, plant cultivation, textiles, and more. Sörbyn is an agricultural facility with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At Umeå facility, inmates are engaged in wood/industrial work, kitchen duties, learning centers, and treatment programs. The Umeå facility and detention center are approximately a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, and Sörbyn facility is most easily accessed by car. Staff parking is available at all units. Job Description As a chef, you prepare meals for inmates at the facilities and detention center. The tasks include all work typical of an institutional kitchen such as joint planning, purchasing, preparation of lunch and dinner, and handling breakfast orders. The tasks also include cleaning the kitchen facilities, dishwashing, and self-inspection in accordance with applicable legislation. Preparation and handling of special diets is included. Work is conducted in collaboration with other kitchen staff and personnel in other functions. An important part of the daily work involves supervising inmates in the kitchen. You will receive an introduction when you start and will receive further training with courses required for the position. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is confident, stable, and has self-awareness. You remain calm and composed in stressful situations and work well with others. You have good judgment and take responsibility for your tasks.
