About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating existing ones, and expanding, and we are now seeking more staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, jails, and inmate transportation. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service in Kalmar is expanding and currently has several ongoing projects and new establishments ahead. Establishment of a Class 3 prison, a new jail with the goal of being operational by 2027, and a new correctional facility expected to be completed by 2030. The expansion creates great opportunities and numerous new staff members within various professional categories will need to be recruited in the coming years. Today, the central kitchen operates from the current prison in Kalmar but will be moving in the near future to new, modern, and purpose-built facilities. Over the next 3–4 years, our kitchen organization in Kalmar needs to grow as new units open. By 2030, a new prison will be completed in the southern part of Kalmar municipality, and the entire central kitchen will then operate from there in completely new kitchen facilities with modern equipment. Job Description We at the Kalmar operational area are now seeking a skilled and creative cook for employment in the prison kitchen. As a cook in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you have a particularly important role in society. Your daily work has direct significance for the health, well-being, and safety of our inmates. You will be part of a work team of a total of four regular cooks plus a kitchen manager. As a cook, you will primarily prepare food for inmates at Kalmar Prison and Kalmar Jail, but also for inmates in police custody and for staff. Your workplace is based at the prison. The work tasks are typical of large-scale kitchens: preparing, cooking, and portion-packing food, washing dishes and cleaning the kitchen facilities, as well as performing self-inspections in accordance with current legislation. Preparation of special diets occurs continuously. Working hours range from as early as 06:30 and as late as 17:00, and you work every other weekend. The work is performed partly in collaboration with correctional staff internally as well as with, for example, suppliers/inspectors externally. The position also includes the ability to communicate with and guide the inmates you serve. Qualifications You are confident in your cooking skills. As a person, you are stable and accustomed to working in teams. You have a positive and helpful attitude, work well with others, but also have the ability to work independently. You have good judgment and take responsibility for your tasks and for the best of the organization. To enjoy and succeed in your assignment, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in human development. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect you and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute through your approach to ensuring that everyone is treated equitably. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
