Description Klarebergsskolan F-9 on Hisingen is one of the largest elementary schools in Gothenburg. The school has 2 excellent school libraries, one for grades F-3 and one for grades 4-9. We are looking for a librarian who wants to create and establish a program in good collaboration with teachers and the school's other staff. Job Responsibilities In your role as a librarian, you are responsible for the school library space and work to ensure the school library becomes a learning environment that is socially, pedagogically, and physically accessible. Your main job responsibilities include: Participate in assessing students' reading proficiency and developing strategies to increase students' knowledge and interest in reading. Work to strengthen students' reading engagement and reading proficiency through reading promotion and language development methods and activities, both independently and in collaboration with school staff. Contribute to developing the school's approaches to multilingualism and Swedish as a second language. Develop and further methods to strengthen students' media and information literacy and digital competence. Plan and conduct instruction and guide students both in the library and classroom. Work to ensure the school library is an active part of the school's values-based work and democratic mission. Manage media planning and purchasing, circulation and book handling. Conduct book discussions and work in classrooms as well as manage library breaks for students at the school. Together with school librarians at other elementary schools in the city, you are part of the Elementary School Administration's school librarian network for collegial learning. You are expected to participate in professional development initiatives aimed at advancing school library services. Gothenburg City Library Plan 2024-2028 We work based on Gothenburg City's Library Plan 2024-2028 with the goal that the school library will have a clear pedagogical function whose primary purpose is to promote students' reading and media and information literacy through collaboration with educators, and to create a school library for everyone. The focus of the school library's activities is students' increased academic achievement, well-being, and identity development by integrating the school library into instruction. Qualifications We are looking for someone with a university degree in library and information science or equivalent higher education that the employer deems relevant. You have high digital competence relevant to the job responsibilities and a strong interest in children's and youth literature. It is a merit if you have knowledge and experience in strengthening the Swedish language with multilingual students. To succeed in this role, you need to have strong commitment to children and young people and their learning. You also have a strong ambition to translate research and in-depth subject knowledge into effective school library practice.
