The Supreme Court's primary mission is to lead the application of law through precedent-setting decisions. The Supreme Court is the final instance for civil cases, criminal cases, and matters decided by courts of appeal. In addition to its role as a precedent-setting body, the Supreme Court also reviews cases concerning retrials, judicial error, restoration of missed deadlines, and matters relating to other states' extradition requests and certain matters concerning attorneys. The Court's goal is to be a modern and attractive workplace with particular focus on meaningful and developmental work tasks, individually adapted skills development, great opportunity to influence routines and work methods, and engaging and developmental leadership. The Court actively works on business development with particular focus on modern work methods. The goal is for employees to be involved and active in development work. The Supreme Court employs approximately 100 people in total, of whom 16 are judges (Justices). The Supreme Court is organized into two judicial divisions and a chancellery, which consists of three preparation units and an administrative unit that includes the records office and archives. 1 position(s). Duties The position of judicial clerk at the Supreme Court spans many areas of law, particularly civil law, criminal law, and procedural law. The judicial clerk gains thorough knowledge of case law, becomes well acquainted with legislative history and doctrine within the general courts' field of activity, and increases their ability to analyze legal questions. As a judicial clerk, you are responsible for preparing and presenting cases. You present legal analyses and legal assessments of appeals and applications and provide well-reasoned suggestions for solutions. As a judicial clerk, you have the opportunity to participate in future precedent-setting and work together with some of Sweden's leading legal experts as well as handle interesting, stimulating and qualified legal work tasks. Work as a judicial clerk provides extensive knowledge of the legal system and its application as well as in qualified legal analysis and problem-solving techniques, which together provides good credentials for a future judicial position or other qualified legal employment. The vast majority of judicial clerks work with all types of cases occurring at the Court (general cases). However, some judicial clerks are assigned to work with cases within certain specialized areas, including intellectual property law and land and environmental law (specialized cases). At the Supreme Court, preparation attorneys also work. Judicial clerks mainly work with the more complex cases and precedent cases, but they also work together with the preparation attorneys in the preparation of all cases. Many of the judicial clerks work in Stockholm, but there are also opportunities to work remotely from Gothenburg, Jönköping, Lund, or Umeå. Qualifications We are looking for you who have a background as an assessor. Specialized knowledge, for example in intellectual property law or land and environmental law, can be particularly meritorious. To perform well and thrive in the role of judicial clerk, you must be a highly skilled and efficient legal professional. It is important that you are structured and have an ability for a holistic perspective. You should also be self-directed and have a very strong ability and willingness to take responsibility. Furthermore, you must have personal maturity and good judgment. To be eligible for employment, you must meet high standards regarding judgment, security awareness, and suitability. This means that you stand up for democratic values and the state values that govern the Swedish Courts' operations. We require that you comply with applicable laws. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. Other Information Multiple positions are available. The employment is time-limited (6 years with possibility of extension). Start date by agreement. For employment as a judicial clerk, the provisions of sections 26 and 27 of the Ordinance (1996:377) with instructions for the Supreme Court apply.
