Do you want to lead the development of Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) digital workplace and help shape modern IT services for research, education, and administration? The IT Department at SLU is seeking a Group Manager for Digital Workplace. We are looking for someone who wants to combine present and trust-based leadership with service development, work methods, and technical platforms in a large and complex organization. About the role As Group Manager for Digital Workplace, you will lead approximately 12 employees based in Uppsala and Umeå. The group is responsible for central services within the digital workplace and works closely with other parts of the IT Department and SLU operations. The Digital Workplace is undergoing significant transformation. SLU is transitioning from locally operated solutions for email and file sharing toward a dedicated Microsoft 365 environment. At the same time, client management is evolving from traditional SCCM-based management to Microsoft Intune and modern approaches for automated client installation and administration. As Group Manager, you have personnel, budget, and operational responsibility. You lead the group's work and ensure that services are developed and delivered cost-effectively, securely, and with the organization's needs in focus. An important part of the role is to work with the group's specialists, other parts of the IT Department, and IT coordinators in operations to translate technical possibilities and operational needs into clear and manageable services. Your main areas of responsibility are to: lead, support, and develop employees with high technical expertise take responsibility for the group's operations and finances ensure stable and appropriate delivery and management of the group's services advance development toward modern cloud-based platforms and work methods develop service offerings, processes, routines, and documentation conduct continuous improvement work and change management collaborate with operations, other parts of the IT Department, suppliers, and other external parties take responsibility for budgeting, financial monitoring and forecasting, and aspects of the group's procurement and vendor management. You will be part of the management team for the User-Focused IT unit and work closely with the Group Managers for Service Desk and AV, as well as the Unit Manager on the unit's joint development and goals. On-call services may be part of the work. Your background We are looking for someone who has: relevant academic education in, for example, systems science or computer science, or equivalent competence that SLU considers equivalent documented experience leading and developing IT employees experience managing employees working in multiple geographic locations experience with IT operations management and structuring and developing operations work documented experience with change management and implementing changes affecting technology, work methods, and people experience translating operational needs into defined IT services, service offerings, and agreed-upon deliveries experience with budget responsibility, financial monitoring, and forecasting good knowledge of process-oriented work methods in IT, such as ITIL good knowledge of information security and its application within user-focused IT experience with IT operations at a university, college, or other large academic organization. It is advantageous if you have experience with: modern digital workplace and client management platforms working in or near a large service desk or support organization developing service models and systematic monitoring of IT deliveries procurement and vendor management in IT collaboration on IT services between universities, government agencies, or other large organizations Incident Management and work with business-critical IT incidents mobile telephony or other user-focused communication services. You build trusting relationships and collaborate easily across organizational and professional boundaries. You work in a structured manner, drive issues forward, and can balance between day-to-day delivery and longer-term development matters. You need to be able to understand technical matters at a level that allows you to lead specialists and translate technical possibilities into operational value. The role requires you to communicate clearly and build trust with employees and technical specialists as well as operational representatives and management.
