The Department of Archaeology and Ancient Cultures is one of Scandinavia's largest archaeological research environments. The department consists of six units: Archaeology, the Archaeological Research Laboratory (AFL), the Osteoarchaeological Research Laboratory (OFL), Ancient Culture and Society, the Numismatic Research Group, and the Center for Paleogenetics (CPG). Subject/Subject Description The guest professorship is a time-limited position for 5 years, and the position holder is expected to focus on research (50%) and teaching (50%) in archaeology with a focus on environmental humanities. The position will be located at the Archaeological Research Laboratory. Duties The position holder is expected to develop and lead the department's research within environmental humanities, and to teach and develop the department's courses and master's programs in archaeology with a focus on environmental humanities, linking studies of the past, present, and future. The duties also include interdisciplinary collaboration with other subject areas at the university, particularly at the Faculty of Humanities. The position holder will have special responsibility for coordinating the humanities course within the interdisciplinary master's program TRACEE (Master's Programme in Transdisciplinary Studies of Climate, Environment and Energy), which is coordinated by the natural science area. The position holder is expected to actively contribute to applications for external research funding, take on research leadership assignments, initiate joint projects and collaborative publications, and contribute to maintaining and developing the Department's local, regional, national, and international collaborations. In addition, the position holder is expected to supervise and teach at archaeology courses at the department. Qualifications Eligible for appointment as guest professor is someone who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence and who is already a professor or has been assessed as possessing professorial competence in an equivalent manner. Scientific competence must have been demonstrated through independent research contributions within archaeology with a focus on environmental humanities that significantly exceed what is required for associate professor competence, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Planning and leadership of research will also be given importance. Pedagogical competence must have been demonstrated through teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels as well as at the doctoral level within environmental humanities. The assessment of pedagogical competence shall address the planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination. Pedagogical competence must be well documented in such a way that quality can also be assessed. The applicant must have an established research profile within environmental humanities and conduct independent research within the field. The applicant should also be interested in contributing to and developing ongoing research themes in archaeology with a focus on environmental humanities, as well as in developing and contributing to new research themes within the field. The applicant must possess both the ability to collaborate and the capability and suitability otherwise needed to perform the duties well. Evaluation Criteria Special emphasis is placed on scientific competence within archaeology with a focus on environmental humanities. Special emphasis is placed on pedagogical competence and documented experience in developing both advanced courses and programs within environmental humanities. Special emphasis is placed on documented ability to collaborate with colleagues in a multidisciplinary environment and across disciplinary boundaries, particularly within the humanities. Great weight is placed on successfully planning and obtaining grants for research projects from external funding sources, particularly within the field. Applicants must have strong ability to express themselves in speech and writing in English. Knowledge of Swedish is meritorious. Swedish language proficiency is not a requirement for the appointment, but the applicant should be prepared to take on administrative and pedagogical duties within a couple of years if needed that require understanding and use of Swedish. Great weight is also placed on the ability to initiate, maintain, and develop networks, both national and international, within the field. Meritorious are: administrative competence and ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to communicate about research and development work. successful research supervision demonstrated through active supervision of at least one doctoral student until approved dissertation. higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways is meritorious.
