The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on, among other things, cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. One of the guiding principles at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, and vascular biology. Parts of the activities are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology and hospital physics at the Akademiska Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in a number of degree programs, standalone courses and international master's programs within the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a turnover of approximately 550 million kronor, of which about two-thirds are external research grants. The number of employees is approximately 400, of which approximately 100 are doctoral students, and there are a total of over 850 people active in the workforce. Read more about the department's activities here: www.uu.se/medarbetare/institution/immunologi-genetik-och-patologi Job Responsibilities We are seeking an employee for Uppsala Genome Center to participate in laboratory work with various DNA/RNA "long-read" sequencing methods. This includes so-called Next Generation DNA sequencing (NGS) using technologies from Pacific Biosciences (Revio) and Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT). The work includes receipt inspection and sample preparation of DNA and RNA samples for sequence analysis. Sample preparation is mainly done manually but in some cases automated with computer-controlled pipetting robots. The work also includes handling, maintenance and, if necessary, troubleshooting of the instruments used in the operation. Some computer-related tasks are included in the work, such as using MiniLims (BioTeam) for registration of projects, samples and workflows. Development of functions in Microsoft Excel to facilitate documentation of sample flow, sample handling and data compilation. Analysis and processing of NGS data may also be included in the work tasks. Qualification Requirements University education in biology, molecular biology, biotechnology or equivalent. Experience working with sample preparation and instruments from Pacific Biosciences (Revio) for DNA/RNA sequencing. Experience handling high molecular weight DNA and specific analysis methods (such as FemtoPulse). Experience preparing and purifying sequencing libraries automatically at large scale with pipetting robot. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with UNIX-based programs. The work involves continuously learning to handle new instruments as well as new methods and protocols for sample preparation. A requirement is the ability to independently and with own initiative perform the work according to assignment and to take responsibility for completed work towards the client. The applicant must have documented experience of independent work. Good ability to communicate in Swedish and English in speech and writing is a requirement as recurring contact and communication with the researchers we perform assignments for is an important part of the operation.
