The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is divided into seven research programs, all focusing on different areas within cell and molecular biology: computational biology and bioinformatics, microbiology and immunology, molecular biology, molecular biophysics, molecular evolution, molecular systems biology, and structural biology. The scientific foundation of our work lies in biology, but our research overlaps with other areas such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, and physics. The position will be located in Jens Carlsson's research group in the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics program. Jens Carlsson's research focuses on computational modeling of proteins with special focus on G-protein coupled receptors. Jens Carlsson's group uses modeling to understand how receptors function at the molecular level and develops methods to identify drug candidates, often in collaboration with experimental research groups. It is an international research team that is also part of Science for Life Laboratory (http://www.scilifelab.se/). Duties
The research is focused on developing techniques and analyzing pharmacological experiments to study how small molecules affect receptors. The goal of the project is to identify drug candidates for developing new treatments for schizophrenia. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with experimental research groups.
Qualification Requirements
Doctoral degree in pharmacology with focus on receptor biology or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent, plus at least one year of postdoctoral research experience.
Very good knowledge of analyzing pharmacological data from in vitro and in vivo experiments and extensive experience developing analysis methods in this field is required.
Experience with various techniques for studying G-protein coupled receptors is required to be able to plan the research.
Good knowledge of English in both speech and writing is required, as the work is conducted in an international environment.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as good teamwork ability, motivation, and independence.
Desirable/Meriting Further Qualifications
Previous experience in interdisciplinary research within computational modeling and experiments for aminergic G-protein coupled receptors is meriting.
About the Position
The employment is limited to 12 months. The position is 20 %. Start date by agreement. Work location: Uppsala
