The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology (IMBIM) at Uppsala University comprises a broad international environment for research and teaching. At IMBIM, basic research is conducted in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, tumor biology, comparative genetics, functional genomics, immunology, bacteriology, and virology. The department's research is primarily fundamental in nature, but has clear connections and significance for health and disease in both animals and humans. Main Duties
The main responsibilities involve research on molecular mechanisms in inflammatory skin diseases, including psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. The research will particularly focus on different methods for studying the role of mast cells in these diseases. The work will include new methods for inducing selective apoptosis in mast cells. The position encompasses culturing of primary cells and several techniques for studying the effect of various substances on skin mast cells, including fluorescence microscopy, live-imaging, flow cytometry, in vivo techniques, and various cell biological and biochemical methods.
Qualifications
A doctorate in immunology, molecular biology/cell biology or equivalent, with extensive experience in experimental laboratory work. The position requires documented experience with cell culture and in vivo techniques, as well as experience with various immunological and cell biological methods such as flow cytometry, qPCR, Western blot, transfection, cell staining, and microscopy. Previous experience in skin biology and/or mast cell biology is meritorious. The applicant must be able to work independently as well as collaborate with other group members and with national and international partners. Excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is required. Personal qualities such as flexibility, attention to detail, and teamwork skills are valued.
