The Department of Clinical Sciences is one of six departments at Sahlgrenska Academy at Gothenburg University. The department conducts research and education that focuses on human health and quality of life. We represent 16 different subject areas (divisions) and are organized into four sections. Through enriching collaboration with healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefit both care and research. The Division of Plastic Surgery conducts clinic-related research within the clinical areas handled by the plastic surgery specialty. Typical research areas are craniofacial surgery, surgery for cleft lip, jaw, palate, breast reconstruction, microsurgery, gender-affirming surgery, and surgery for excess skin. A smaller part includes experimental research aimed at producing tissues such as fat, cartilage, and skin for plastic surgical reconstruction. The research group now seeking staff works with 3D bioprinting, primarily of adipose tissue. For over a decade, they have developed techniques in several different animal models, with a main focus on vascularization of 3D bioprinted implants. Job Responsibilities The position involves working with 3D bioprinting of adipose tissue, skin, and cartilage. The printed tissues will be implanted either in animal models (mouse, rat, pig) or in humans. Furthermore, bioprinting in the operating room will be performed under sterile conditions. The work includes independently and in collaboration with research leaders planning and conducting experiments and method development. Qualifications For the position, the applicant must have a PhD and a civil engineering degree in biotechnology. Preference is given to those with knowledge and skills directly applicable to the project. You must be able to perform bioink preparation, adipose tissue preparation from the operating room, bioprinting of fat, cartilage and skin, cell culture, nanoindentation, and immunohistochemistry. Meriting qualifications include knowledge of animal experiments (mouse, rat, pig), FACS, TOF-SIMS. Employment The position is a fixed-term full-time (100%) employment for 10 months, located at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Division of Plastic Surgery.
