About the Position The aviation medical team within the flight certification section reviews and assesses medical certificates for pilots, air traffic controllers, and cabin crew, supervises certified aviation medical examiners and aviation medical centers, and participates in regulatory development in aviation medicine at both national and international levels. The role of aviation medical examiner is described in the European regulations governing civil aviation and involves being a medical expert in aviation medicine and supporting aviation medical examiners in their work. For all serious medical issues affecting pilots or air traffic controllers, you will be consulted and in most cases make decisions about appropriate medical evaluations and authorize approvals when possible. You work in a team closely with medical case officers and experienced aviation medical examiners. The aviation medical team has access to several independent medical experts who assist with assessments in their respective areas; in the field of heart disease, regular monthly meetings are held. It is always you in the role of aviation medical examiner who performs a comprehensive risk assessment and makes the decision. In your role as aviation medical examiner and government representative, you will be offered varied and exciting work that challenges you in different ways. Assessment of individual aviation medical cases is alternated with supervision visits to aviation medical examiners' practices and aviation medical centers. International work becomes more prominent as your experience in the field increases. You will also continuously undergo training in aviation medicine as part of fulfilling the requirements for the aviation medical examiner role. Read more about what it's like to work at Transportstyrelsen You Will Review and assess aviation medical cases Communicate and provide advice to aviation medical examiners Plan and conduct supervision and competency assessments of aviation medical examiners and aviation medical centers Plan and conduct information and training initiatives in aviation medicine both internally and externally Plan and conduct annual aviation medical examiner seminars Handle reconsiderations and appeals in consultation with the agency's legal experts Collaborate with other authorities nationally and internationally. You Must Have Swedish medical license Specialty certification in a clinical specialty (not laboratory) and at least two years of experience in that field, or alternatively hold an aviation medical examiner certificate class 1 or 3 Demonstrable significant experience in aviation medical work Strong ability to express yourself in speech and writing in both Swedish and English.
