Experienced Systems Administrator for IAM
Sveriges Meteorologiska och Hydrologiska Institu · Full-time
Folkborgsvägen 17, Norrköping, Sweden
Most of us appreciate when IT just works—you probably appreciate why it works. We're looking for someone who wants to work with identity, authentication, and security in an environment where technology is central, complex, and constantly evolving. With us, you'll work alongside other experienced specialists, take the lead on technical matters, and help build robust solutions that are critical to SMHI's mission serving society. About IT Operations At SMHI, we deliver effective IT operations by providing user-friendly, cost-efficient, and fit-for-purpose IT services and tools. The department consists of approximately 130 employees working across all aspects of development and management throughout the entire chain from concept to production, covering both applications and infrastructure. SMHI operates with diverse business units, which places high demands on IT operations and the IT support that SMHI's employees need. About the Position You will join the Infrastructure Server team within the IT Production unit, where you work closely with other infrastructure teams and parts of IT operations to develop and maintain SMHI's IT environment. Together, the teams are responsible for identity and access management, networks, storage, virtualization, data centers, and IT security. Within the infrastructure area, a technological transition is underway with initiatives in network segmentation, containerization, and automation. The role focuses on Identity and Access, where you work with core IAM (Identity and Access Management) functions, primarily including Active Directory, PKI and certificate management, as well as web-based authentication and login services. As a systems administrator, you plan, design, implement, and further develop solutions with a strong focus on security, stability, automation, and future-proofing. You are responsible for both maintaining and advancing the services, for example through updates, quality improvements, and increased automation using AWX/Ansible. You work closely with other systems administrators, architects, operations staff, and security specialists. The role also involves providing technical support for implementing new solutions and participating in major change initiatives related to infrastructure and security-critical IT environments. The work requires good collaboration and communication, structure, planning, and self-motivation. About You We're looking for someone with relevant post-secondary IT infrastructure education (minimum two years) or equivalent knowledge and experience as assessed by SMHI. You have solid knowledge of IT infrastructure through at least two years of relevant professional experience with in-depth technical infrastructure work. You are comfortable working in both Windows and Linux environments, on both servers and clients, and have strong proficiency in Swedish and English. It is highly advantageous if you have experience with: Directory services and identity management, such as Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos, or equivalent technologies. Authentication, authorization, or single sign-on, such as SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, or equivalent. Version control, such as Gitlab. It is advantageous if you have experience with: Identity and Access Management, such as access control, account management, identities, access reviews, or user lifecycle management. Practical IT security work in infrastructure environments, such as hardening, logging, vulnerability management, security monitoring, or technical security measures. Automation or scripting, such as Ansible, Python, or other tools to streamline repetitive tasks. Processes, procedures, and practices related to IAM, IT operations, information security, or IT security. Your personal qualities and abilities are crucial for succeeding and thriving in this role. You possess strong self-motivation and perseverance; you are patient and remain motivated and effective despite setbacks, and you have a strong sense of loyalty. Although you work in a team, you bear significant personal responsibility for driving and maintaining the areas you oversee. Candidates also take responsibility for their own professional development and are motivated by working with qualified colleagues in an exciting environment. You are service-oriented and responsive to user needs, but without compromising on accuracy, efficiency, and security aspects. Security awareness needs to be high among candidates. It's a plus if, in addition to managing yourself, you can also lead others, take responsibility for planning and strategy, motivate, and coordinate your colleagues in day-to-day work and toward the future.
