Unit Manager for Night Staff – Give Young People a Fresh Start at Långanäs Youth Facility
Statens Institutionsstyrelse · Full-time
Långanäs 1, Eksjö, Sweden
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service (Statens institutionsstyrelse, SiS) is a government agency responsible for individually tailored involuntary care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse problems. SiS also administers closed youth care. We do this at youth facilities and homes for adults with substance abuse issues throughout the country. At SiS, your work life will be an exciting challenge. Regardless of where in our organization you work or what position you hold, you help create vital change. SiS youth facility Långanäs accepts non-compulsory school age boys with psychosocial issues, criminal behavior, and substance abuse problems. Job Description Would you like to ensure safety, quality, and development when the rest of the institution moves into evening and night hours? The Swedish Prison and Probation Service (SiS) is currently undergoing a comprehensive and exciting transformation, and at the Långanäs youth facility in Eksjö, we are significantly scaling up operations. Currently, Långanäs has four locked units, including three treatment units and one assessment and intake unit. As part of our expansion, the facility will soon open a separate open unit to offer a complete care pathway. We are now looking for you to step in as unit manager and oversee our night staff and operational managers. As night unit manager with us, you will receive a genuine developmental assignment with overall responsibility for our nighttime operations. You will have managerial responsibility for approximately 30 employees. Our target group consists of non-compulsory school age boys with psychosocial issues, criminal behavior, and substance abuse problems. Your main task is to ensure that the care and treatment of our young people meets the highest quality standards and is carried out according to established goals, with a focus on safety and quality around the clock. In this role, you have formal responsibility for personnel, operations, finances, and work environment. Through close, coaching, and supportive leadership, you drive methodology development, ensure documentation quality, and provide your employees with the right conditions to carry out their important assignment in a good, safe, and secure work environment. You will not be unit manager of a specific unit; instead, you will have overarching responsibility in close collaboration with other unit managers. The best part is that you won't lead this work alone—you'll step into a structure designed for your success. You will be an important part of Långanäs overall leadership team together with, among others, the facility director, principal, and fellow managers, where you share collective responsibility for the entire operation. Your assignment also includes participation in the institution's management on-call schedule on a rotating basis. To allow you to focus wholeheartedly on your leadership and development work, you also have full support from our central support functions at the institution, such as the security coordinator, administrators, HR generalist, and quality unit. We know that engaged managers are key to our success, and therefore we invest significantly in you and your future. As a new manager with us, you will receive a solid introduction and training program that prepares you for this unique assignment. Because we are an organization in constant development, it doesn't stop there—we offer exceptional opportunities for continuous professional development, leadership programs, and internal career paths within the agency. This is your chance to grow as a leader and make your mark on an operation in strong development. Qualifications We are looking for someone who has: An academic degree of at least 180 credits with a focus on social science, healthcare, behavioral science, or another relevant academic qualification. Multiple years of experience working in organizations focused on healthcare, treatment, and security, such as social services, healthcare and treatment, criminal justice, or other relevant operations. Documented current experience in a supervisory role. Category B driver's license It is a merit if you have: Experience as a manager with operational responsibility, budget responsibility, and personnel responsibility. Since operations are often event-driven, you need to be comfortable making decisions, reprioritizing, and quickly shifting both pace and direction. You remain calm and professional even in demanding situations and have the ability to adapt to changed circumstances. At the same time, high demands are placed on you to have a holistic perspective and work in a structured and systematic manner to ensure quality care according to the agency's goals, guidelines, values, and applicable laws. You know how to prioritize and find it easy to set goals and follow up on results. To fit well in this role, we see that you take responsibility for the whole and realize SiS's vision and goals. You create conditions for good results and tackle challenges and act with courage when needed. You are a good role model and show confidence in your employees' and colleagues' competence and encourage them toward development and taking personal responsibility. You involve your employees in our development work and create conditions for active employee engagement and a learning organization. You promote good cooperation within SiS and with other partners. You are communicative and create dialogue, participation, and engagement. At SiS, we value good leadership. This means that as a manager and leader, you take responsibility for the whole, act as a good role model, drive development, promote good cooperation, and are clear in your communication.
