We're seeking a Unit Manager for the Recreation Department, Youth Division, who wants to create an inclusive and safe recreational environment while leading, developing, and building strong teams together with engaged employees. About Us Umeå Recreation is responsible for offering Umeå residents a rich, equitable, gender-equal, and sustainable recreational program, where children's and young people's participation and opportunities for development hold a special place. Our operations include managing sports facilities, swimming pools, recreational facilities, recreational areas, youth centers, and programs for young people and individuals with disabilities. Within Youth Recreation, we work with: Open youth activities (youth centers and youth houses) Vacation programs and events Community outreach and preventive initiatives Recreation for All – programs for adults with disabilities Our operations are characterized by youth participation and a learning environment where democratic processes are an integral part. Your Assignment Youth Recreation is organized into two units with a total of 15 meeting places. As a Unit Manager, you'll work closely with the other Unit Manager – an important prerequisite for achieving good results. You are responsible for leading, planning, coordinating, and developing your unit's operations in line with established goals and objectives. The work happens in close dialogue with team leaders and other employees. Your responsibilities include: Personnel responsibility for approximately 25-30 employees Budget and financial responsibility Work environment responsibility and systematic work environment management Operations and quality development Creating good conditions for common working methods and strong team spirit Driving change and development initiatives You report directly to the Operations Manager and are part of the Youth Division's management team, where you contribute to the entire division's development. About You We're looking for a confident and experienced leader with genuine commitment to people and operational development. You have a team-oriented approach and create participation, trust, and security through clear and unpretentious leadership. You have the ability to lead through change and to create structure, direction, and alignment within the organization. Since operations are conducted at several geographically dispersed meeting places within Umeå municipality, you need to be comfortable leading remotely. You build relationships, create presence, and maintain close leadership even when you don't meet all employees daily. Through good communication and trust-based leadership, you create engagement, participation, and alignment throughout the unit. We want you to: Have relevant higher education Have several years of experience as a manager with personnel, budget, and operational responsibility Have experience with change management and development work Be confident in work environment responsibility and personnel matters Have strong ability to plan, organize, and work with staffing and resources Be communicative and relationship-building Have experience with collaboration, both internally and externally Have strong ability to create participation, cooperation, and team spirit in geographically dispersed work groups It is advantageous if you have: Experience from politically governed operations Experience with project management and systematic quality work You are organized, engaged, and courageous, and are driven by creating—together with others—operations that make a real difference for young people and adults. Other important qualifications: Good computer skills and experience with Microsoft 365 Strong ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English B driving license Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities.
